Is Orange Juice bad for me?

Hello I've been drinking a lot of orange juice lately. However lately I've been hearing that it isn't good for me because of the acid, too much Vitamin C, and that it's "practically sugar water."

Some say it's no better than soda.

Come anybody comment on this please?

i dont ever drink orange juice, in my opinion it is "sugar water." its good for you because it has vitamins and antioxidants (which you can get from a multi-vitamin), but unlike an actual orange, it has no fiber which is one of the main benefits from fruit! when eating fruit your eating lots of sugar which isnt a great thing, but at least your getting the fiber also. with the juice, lots of sugar and no fiber. i would cut down on it personally, but hey what ever floats your boat haha.

All things in moderation. IMO it's one of the tastier things on the planet and I'll always drink some, but I limit it.

orange juice is loaded with good vitamins and antioxidants. it also comes with alot of sugar though, so if youre worried about that, drink OJ in moderation. if not, guzzle away

Well I'm worried that I'll gain a lot of fat from it due to the sugar, or am I missing something here?

Sugar alone doesn't make you fat, excess calories in your diet for the day do. However, a lot of sugar, especially from beverages, can lead to no satiety in your diet and you may end up overeating. (For example, you're probably not gonna feel as full from a bowl of veggies compared to an oreo, you know?). So when you eat sugary foods, eat ones that you enjoy and be ready to counter any extra hunger.

For me, the only problems with sugar is that I don't eat them before I exercise because they leave me feeling sluggish. Also, make sure you find eat foods that have a good micronutrient profile because most sugary foods don't. But in general, sugary foods are fine.

lol Bro, My cousins are hippies in california that eat nothing but fruit..its been like 3 years now, they are skinny, and also fruit is as natural as it gets, does it make any sense that you could get fat from it? Natural fats and sugars are good for you,its not the same sugar in cakes and pies.

So Orange Juice has natural sugar which isn't the same as processed sugar so it isn't that bad for you. And I can have 3-5 cups a day and be fine with no worries to my health or weight?

Of course it isn't. Try to drink it as organically as possible. No Sunny-D or Hi-C if you can help it. I'd say 8 ounces a day?

I drank a cup before I started keto.

I bought the 50/50 which was 50% OJ 50% water and sweetened with Truvia. It cut the cals in 1/2, got my C and potassium and it tasted good.

Now I've got 1/4 carton in my fridge. Perhaps I should freeze it ...

From hippie health nuts, I've read that you juice veggies, but eat fruit. Fruit juice is like drinking soda. Whether the sugar is from a natural source or not, you're still drinking logx ov calories.

I enjoy apples and grapes but dread oranges. Though I enjoy all three of these juices, especially grape.

So juice isn't bad for you at all, only if you go way overboard. Thanks for the info people.

Most things in excess will be bad for you. In moderation, orange juice is healthy.

Depends entirely on the ingredients. If it's 100% oranges and nothing else, it wouldn't be any different than eating an orange would it? I mean, the ingredients don't magically transform when you squeeze the juice out. However, if you get the kind full of sugar, preservatives, additives, artificial flavors, etc., you might as well grab a coke.

At the end of the day, it's a question of cals in vs. cals out if you're worried about weight. Doesn't matter if it's orange juice, maple syrup or sand - A calorie is a calorie.

not much vitamin C in oranges these days...some supermarket oranges contain NO vitamin c due to all the nutrients being sucked out of the soil and not replaced.
Should be more in juice tho, as its concentrated! :$

and this is not true. vitamin c does not come from the ground. it is synthesized in the fruit just like everything else. the vitamin c comes from the air and the sun brah. nice try though. there is probably morfe vit c than ever, because farmers specifically breed oranges with hgigher vit c content.

Let's see.. 100% orange juice is great. Natural, tasty, rich in vitamin C and so on. NOW, if you're tracking your calories, you'll definately want to add them to your daily calories intake. I mean.. if you're cutting on <2000 kcal, maybe it'd be wise to get your calories from somewhere else (i.e. whole fruits/vegetables), but if you're bulking on 4000 kcal, then it will probably not do any harm to drink a few glasses a day.

Nonsense. Yes, it is synthesised in the plant but synthesised from what?? from the nutrients in the soil!

"the vitamin c comes from the air and the sun" ??!!?? LOL

    quote from Wiki...

While plants are generally a good source of vitamin C, the amount in foods of plant origin depends on: the precise variety of the plant, the soil condition, the climate in which it grew, the length of time since it was picked, the storage conditions, and the method of preparation

wow, lol at wiki. if you read the footnote from that "fact" it leads to this link: http://www.uk.foedevarestyrelsen.dk/...le/forside.htm Which states the exact opposite of wiki wrote. This link says that vit c content has increase in certain plant carieties over recent decades, due to selective breeding, and has otherwise remained the same.

vitamin c is a carbohydrate. U think plants get sugar from the ground????

and yes, my mistake, the vit c comes from the sun, the air, and also water

edt: as far as the "soil conditions", wikipedia meant that if a plant is growing in terrible soil, say its really acidic of something, then the plant will be sick, and not produce as much vit c. but it will also be producing a lot less of everything, like fruit.

perhaps I am getting mixed up with minerals from the soil? (not vitamins)

How many calories are in the OJ you're drinking - considering most of them came from sugar? How are those calories more magical than a "natural" calorie?

An excess of that = fat, exactly the same as an excess of sugar from cakes = fat.

Comparing 100% orange juice to soda pop is one of the dumbest comparisons ever. OJ has vitamins and can help lower cholesterol. Soda pop just rots your teeth and makes you a tubby.
