lol like IPF depth no belt...
depth is very important in geared feds/comp... b/c if someone can BARELY get down to 3" above parlell, their suit is far tighter than it should be, giving them alot more carryover.... so i think feds should take it alot more serious than they do...
does anyone have any video of the squats at IPA worlds?

I think the fact that so many of the IPA lifters complained about the too-strict/inconsistent judging is hilarious. These are the same guys who say, when an obviously high squat is passed, "well judges gave 3 whites, it's a good lift." Yet now when the calls are against them, they throw the officials under the bus. You can't have it both ways-you either accept the judges' decisions all the time, or not at all.

Yup. I knew I met a class guy when I met Gene at the first IPA meet I did in January. Since I came prepared to squat to USAPL depth, I really wasn't thinking about it or listening to what he said at the rules briefing too hard.
Now that I think back, I remember him saying something about what happened at the last IPA meet in New Jersey the previous year. He apologized about it, and said that he was here to straighten it out.
I brought a kid with me who was doing his first meet. Gene spent extra time with the kid, going out of his way, giving him a nice pep talk at the weigh-in the night before.
Gene called me after the meet to ask how I and my n00b training partner liked the event. This was after he inquired about whether I had my Ipod. Evidently some lifter or a member of the audience had left theirs behind.
I look forward to meeting Gene again and doing my 2nd IPA meet. I'm glad he's trying to clean up the high-squatting mess.
Thanks Gene Rychlak.

It's sad that you get props for following the rules. However in the context of powerlifting today, I must say that I now have a lot of respect for Gene for calling it like it is while other feds/directors/judges don't have the balls to do so. Hopefully IPA can restore their credibility and that their decision will influence other feds to do the same.

This whole thing is funny, because i did an IPA meet just a couple months ago with gene as one of the judges and i am not exaggerating when i say they were all white lighting half squats, like depth you see *******s in the gym hit then brag about what they squat. It was really ridiculous. Sucks for the peoples world records i saw get broken by this bull****. Then here he is being a huge hypocrit. Gotta love it

I agree that i hope he keeps it up, it is just ****ty that i wiitnessed his meet ran exactly like what he was preaching against... only 2 months ago. Not to mention people actually bouncing while benching and it getting passed.
Got my rage out lol... more power to him if he helps bring some change, and doesnt be a hypocrit while doing it.Excellence is the result of Caring more than others think is Wise; Risking more than others think is Safe. if anyone is curious here are some lifters reactions to the bomb outs.

including the lifter who said it is hard enough to get to parallel in canvas, not to mention 1-2 inches below.

Good riddance, if he wants to retire, let him.
This sport can go in one of two ways...lifters being judged loosely in a big circle-jerk that results in the sport being degraded, or lifters can be judged fairly and the sport will improve/prosper. Those who can't handle it should GTFO or make their own Fed where half-squats are allowed.

thats what i thought.
Its definately good that this is happening, regardless of how gene was judging at a meet 2 months ago, changing it to correct standards is the right thing to do.I love that link btw to the fortified iron thread, OP is obviously the dude who gene commented on in particular, even the exact quote lol.We the type of crew, to get fresh just to sit in the living room.-Bill O'Reilly
