Do I need a postworkout shake if I eat "real" food after workout?

Hi there. I hear it's beneficial to drink a protein drink like whey right after weight lifting. But if I'm going to eat "real" food (brown rice, eggs, various veggies) after fast exercising, do i still need to drink a protein shake after because of the fast absorption of whey?
    Thanks.

Solid food is a lot of the time better. As long as you are getting enough protein, a shake is not needed.
    Do another set...

Well after an intense workout whey is def optimal. Mix that in with some fast absobing carbs such as waxy maize and you'll make the most out of your 'anabolic window'. The carbs will shuttle the protein quick into the muscles for recovery and also replenish your glocogen levels. = muscle growth brah
Have a real meal up to an hour after that

    Whey after gym.

Food meal roughly 1 hour later when you get home.

the main reason for whey is that after a workout, ur body is too exhausted to digest food. whey takes little energy to digest, steak is very hard.

Man, you don't "HAVE TO" have whey protein. That's just a supplement.
If you're eating a real-food meal right after your workout is perfect.
Now I'm eating oatmeal + eggs + apple post workout, and I don't need the damn shake. What's the point? If you take your protein after working out, it doesn't matter if it comes from a protein shake, milk, eggs, tuna, chicken or whatever.

You'll get all the different fanatics chiming in here saying "Thats Broscience" or "This is Broscience". Some say that Whey is optimal because it digests faster and that is better right after your workout. Some say it doesn't matter about digestion and that whole foods are better no matter what time of the day it is.

I don't know which is better, but I do know that Whey does in fact digest faster than eating a 8oz piece of chicken breast. That doesn't mean it's optimal for post-workout because as long as you are getting your macros everyday you are good.

    I'm just saying..

broscience at its best in here. you dont need a shake after your workout as most of the guys above me have said. eat your meal and get on wit life. shakes are by no means and far from being a "necessity"

A shake is not needed after workout it's simply a supplement to meet your protein needs for your day. I prefer a whole food meal right after my workout and it saves me money since I don't have to buy protein tubs that often.

Just eat real food. Whey protein is just a combined ploy by the dairy and supplement industry to turn a profit off of a waste product/bi product that might otherwise go to waste.

For the guys who say "whey + casein + sugar" that already occurs in nature… it is called milk. You could try a glass or two post workout.

Real food is the key to growth. It is all you need. Supplements are over-hyped garbage for the most part… although as they say, "a fool and his money shall soon part."
