    Recovery time between sets/exercises

Just wanted to gauge people's preferred or scheduled recovery time between sets & exercises or if you even time it at all.

Personally I like to work on a very short recovery (30secs between reps & 1min between exercises)

Obviously this is not recovering my muscles fully, however I do get a kind of cardio workout from it as my heart rate does not lower as much.

I find that when I use to not even bother timing recoveries I was lifting inconsistantly.

I suppose if you track timings you can gauge improvements more so.

Very generally, I base it on the amount of weight being moved on the exercise:

Heavy Compound Exercises.................. ~ 2-3 minutes
Heavier Isolation Exercises................... ~ 60-90 seconds
Smaller Isolation Exercises................... ~ 30-60 seconds

In any event, I attempt to keep the same rest periods for a given exercises week-week, so I'm sure that weight increases are coming due to strength gains, not just extra rest.

I'll take anywhere from 1-5 minutes depending upon intensity and mental readiness.
Bodybuilding is 60% training and 50% diet. Yes that adds up to 110%, because that's what you should be giving it. Change the inside, and the physique will follow.

I go with a strict 60 seconds if I'm doing singles, doubles, or triples because it's more fun that way. The more reps I do on a compound the more rest I'll take generally but it's rarely more than 2 minutes.

Between exercises I take as much time as I need to be ready for that exercises. Anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes.

I give myself a little more time, each additional set. I only do 3 working sets so it might be 1-2 minutes between the first and second set, and 2-3 minutes between the second and third. Depends on the type of exercise.

Maybe 45-60 seconds between sets; for some more intense movements like the Deadlift, 1-2 minutes.
