    Too much protein=low testosterone?

I have had low testosterone in recent blood tests (~210 for 3-4 tests)

I eat about 2g/lb bodyweight in protein per day.

    Could this be the culprit?

    Thanks!

You don't need 2g per pound in any situation, and your low test levels are most likely due to genetics.

You drink? Smoke? Drugs? Do you sleep enough? Overtraining? etc etc etc

And yes your protein is on the high side. 1.5g/lb is plenty.

this... assuming you aren't doing something that's off key to screw things up it's prolly genetic... the fact that you are 18 makes it even more significant because your T-levels should be high...

Doubt protein will lower test levels, but you shouldnt be taking in that much anyway, you dont need that much and what you dont use is just being wated anyway.

Theres been proven studies that high fat diets will increase test levels. Especially being 18, us late teens seem to really thrive on higher fat diets.

So cut down your protein and up the fat intake. Get tested after a month of 2 n see how it went.

At 18 the only thing low should be intelligence and responsibility.

If anything, I've read of higher protein levels being linked to higher testosterone levels.

    Thanks everyone!

Don't smoke or drink, could be overtraining I guess...

Good idea with the fats! (up the fats, lower the protein)

How much fat would you recommend I take in?

145 lbs., 5' 9", would like to bulk up a bit

    Thanks

    Drop protein to 250g.

Up the fats to around 100g.

That replaces 50g of protein for 22g of fat. Both of which are 200 calories. So your calories will stay tha same.

Give it a shot for a month or 2, see how you go, then go get your test levels checked again. Post your results, will be intersting to see what kind of effect it has.

Sounds good. Only minor concern is is that much fat gonna be hard on my liver?

I also had elevated liver enzymes and don't want to stress my liver any more than it already is...

I've been doing a lot of looking into this subject of low testosterone, here's a really good article... http://www.mens-fitness-and-health.c...rone-Diet.html

Things that stuck out to me:
-too high of a protein:carb ratio = lower testosterone
-poly-saturated fats seemed to correlate with lower testosterone
-too much fiber = lower testosterone (shame too, I do love my veggies...)

I don't think it's worth avoiding veggies simply to boost testosterone a relatively small amount, though. I think the overall health implications are in favor of meeting your vegetable requirements.

Perhaps that's opinion more than fact, but just saying!

i was gonna say your fat intake may be too low..but it seems fine from what u posted...and from everything else u have mentioned..only thing i can say is you just dont produce much test to begin with..comes down to genetics at that point...i dont think you will see much improvement in test levels from further optimizing your diet or taking a week off from training..regardless of any of those things..ur test is still gonna be on the low side.

dont stress about it too much tho...how is your mood? do you feel fine on a day to day basis? i know couple guys on this forum who have low test as well and they have heaps of muscle...so as long as you arent feeling like shiit..your most likely fine in the muscle building department

Vision is purpose, and when your purpose is clear so are your life choices. Vision creates faith and faith creates willpower. With faith there is no anxiety, no doubt - just absolute confidence.

There are two undeniable truths in life: failure and success. Unfortunately, everyone experiences failures before achieving any amount of success. Life is ultimately a giant trial and error test-you never really get what you want without putting up with the things that you dont

now eating too many veggies is bad for you?

That low of test is a big problem, especially at your age. Go see a urologist or an endo.
