You can technically win money as a Pro, but the reality is that you're not going to make any money off winnings from shows. The winnings likely won't even cover your expenses. If you're going to make money off of natural bodybuilding, it would be through other ventures.

The winner of the next show I'm doing in July gets 2k, second gets 1k, 3rd gets 500. That's hardly enough to make a living on. It's money but it's not amazing. If you could get sponsored and do fitness modeling on the side then ya you could make decent money but it's not really a 'get paid well' sport. It's done really for the pride of competing and the desire to be the best at something.

I just went to a natural show a month or so ago where the first place paid $500. You have to do it for the love of competing and the sport not for the money. Also check the rules some like the npc (the only way to enter the IFBB) if I am remembering correctly they will not allow you to compete if you have won prize money or sometimes competed in other organizations shows. Probably not a concern for most but something to be aware of.

I guess I should have said in the US which is where I live (which again is from memories of years ago it may have changed). There is one in europe and some other organizations in other countries.Point is check before you compete in any organization if it might mess up your future plans.

Wow, that sounds incredibly stupid. If anything I would have expected the other way round, ie. Natural federations didn't want competitors coming from the NPC due to the rampant due use etc...
I don't understand why there's so much hate between each federation..

not necessarily kai greene won a ****load of prize money as an amatuer and was a great 'natural' bodybuilder i think it's more to do with who you have on your side. same with quite alot of pros actually at one point they competed in different orgs i no dexter did aswell. But they could be considered local shows i think.

I don't understand why there's so much hate between each federation..
They do it because it is business, the athletes dont make the majority of the money that the fans spend on actively participating in bodybuilding or just watching it and being a fan. When you enter a contest they charge you, the contestant has to pay to compete. then the fans pay to see the athletes. Some pro bodybuilders (IFBB) make a good living from competing supplement contracts guest posing merchandising ect but there are more people making way more than any of the atheletes that never step on a stage or maybe even lift a weight. There are also many IFBB pros that dont make crap look up a list of pros and see how many of them you have heard of. Theres big money in all sports but the athletes who do all the entertaining get the smallest portion of it.

Natural federations are likely to have a harder time keeping their business going. Smaller bodybuilders that bring their own fan base dont generate the kind of money that the freaks of the sport can. Natural federations cant afford to be as elitist as the ifbb.

That is my opinion so take it for what it is worth.

I don't see it possible to do comps for a living until winning at a pro level... till then I think the best route would be fitness modeling/personal training/pornography (jk).

Yeah, makes sense. I understood before I even post that it was for business purposes. But realistically, that's extremely cut throat. I think excessively so. When one athlete can't earn from one federation and then join a superior federation.
    Oh well.
