VERY touchy subject and depends on sooo many factors like the way you drive, regular maintenence schedules, and price range.
But for the average joe buying a car from 1997-2003, flooring the car ever so often, hitting potholes, not a huge budget, not premium gas, I would recommend Honda's and or the volkswagen (no hate)... especially during that year bracket, SOOO many companies would be putting out soo much ****.
on the note of least reliable, cavaliers, sunfires, blazers, basically whatever crap GM and ford put out during that era.
by cam belt, I am taking it you mean timing belt. What we have always recommended to our customers is change it every 100k AND every time you purchase a used a vehicle.
If the timing belt snaps, depending on the type of engine you can be in a world of hurt... (especially mitsubishis)
not really haha, would just go every saturday with my pops to our family shop

i have a car that i don't drive very often... kind of a weekend/sunny day driver. i heard that it is bad to use fuel with e-85 in cars that don't go through alot of gas, or have the same gas sitting in the tank for a number of weeks (same reasoning behind not putting it in boats) because the fuel can break down. any truth? thoughts on ethanol?

I personally haven't replaced one my self, but from my experience with that engine, it wouldn't be a "hard job" just more so time consuming and would need patience. If a shop is doing it for you, it would probably run you about 600 dollars depending on their charge rate
05-07's were definitely Toyota's years, even with something went wrong on these cars, it was a very minor and easy fix. Honda's have always been consistent, and Nissans aswell. What I've found though is to test how reliable a car is, it has to be over 150k though.
Interms or "stupid" **** to go wrong it has to be the GM's once again (soorrryr domestic brahs) Always stupid little sensors and noises that come from them.
Once again though... depends on the budget! Gimme a price range and I can help you better
Personally I think Ethanol is the ****tiest thing ever... not only does it pollute just as much, but it is known to corrode iron parts of cars. Unless your car says its reccomended, dont use it.

What about reliable cars between 2003 and nowadays? Until now, and eventhough I am a huge car fan, I realized that cars are nothin but a huge money pit.
These days Ford are asking people to trade in their 2003 cars. Wow! 2003 seems new for me . WHats ur take on that one.
I considered a Mitsubishi lancer '10 but looked at the value of the '09 and damn this car looses its price quick. by 2012, this car might be worth less than 10K. So whats the best brand that still holds its value for 4 years, aside the german cars. I feel that the depreciation in price is a killer especially when someone is financing.
I know my Mazda 626 is done :P. I have huge problems with the transmission, so instead of asking u about them, I would rather get an advise about the next purchase. My World Is ONE

Yes sirrr, I went to school for business, than ran my own contracting business for a few years, but figured I might aswell turn my hobby into a "career".. So I'm running my dad's auto shop, 50% in the office, 50% getting my hands dirty... feels good man.
I dunno, from my very limited knowledge on this swap... why? the s30 is much lighter, and needs less tinkering. If you have the time and money... go for it... would be sexy as fuk... just seems like it would be such a bitch! especially with the fact the 2jz is much longer.
Definately... I know from my comments to people I am promoting honda and imports... but I am VERY impressed with the new Fords... even the looks of them too.
? whats the question? and what kind of car

95 Accord, AC belt started squeaking about a year ago.. now the AC just quit working. I think the compressor tries to come on, but the belt doesn't have enough tension to turn it over, so it cuts off. Does this sound accurate? I prob just need to replace that belt, right? If so, how much should it cost me to fix doing it myself, or for a mechanic? I don't want to get ripped off.

I have a problem with a 2000 hyundai sonata v6 auto. It doesn't like reverse. Will try to stall itself, and occasionally do this when i stop suddenly (like coming to traffic lights, so not all that sudden). But will start up again and go fine. It's actually done it a couple of times while i'm still driving but no foot on the accelerator.
I haven't even checked the idle, but most of the time it idles fine and everything. It's not all that often that it happens... Maybe once or twice a week. Timing belt? I dunno lol.Om nomnomnomnom
