I've been a firm believer/supporter that every bodybuilder should consume 1-1.5g of protein per pound of bodyweight per day. However how much is too much. For instance, I'm 5'8, 181 lbs right now and I've bumped up my calorie intake to 3000 recently. I also am on a carb cycle diet.
Is consuming in upwards of 300g or more protein a day too much?
My diet consists of: (g = grams of protein)
5am: Protein Shake (25g)
8:30am: Post-Workout Protein Shake (50g)
10:30am: Breakfast (38g)
1:00pm: Lunch (60g)
4:00pm: Afternoon Meal (60g)
7:00pm: Dinner (50g)
8:00pm: Protein Shake before bed including 2% milk (75g)
Total Protein for day: 358g
Isn't this overkill? Will it hinder gains?
Please advise. If you guys want I can explain where I get my protein from.

1-1.5x bodyweight is perfect. Once you start to break the 2x your bodyweight mark i think you're overdoing it and those excess calories from the protein will be stored as fat. Then again Kai Greene takes in 900 grams of protein pre contest and that would be like 3x his bodyweight. But none of us here are anywhere near Kai Greene lol, so i would stick to the rough estimate most of these gurus and dieticians throw around, which is 1-1.5x bw.

I'm no expert. But. It seems like overkill. And a bit weird if you are 'carb cycling' as you say you are.
I mean, I guess, if thats what you are eating then... yeah, I suppose its fine. but I dunno, don't force it - know what I mean? Otherwise your probably just taking massive protein dumps.
Anyway, on a carb cycle, you should also be varying your protein intake. On higher carb days, you lower your protein intake. I think thats the whole point of carb cycling. Cycle carbs (i.e. vary intake) and everything else fluctuates as well. If nothing else fluctuates you're going to over eat. You gotta make adjustments so that your calories per day are just about met (although, on higher carb days you will probably go over your calories per day, on moderate days you'll hit it, and low days you'll be just under).
I weigh 180, and on my high carb days I get around 200g protein max, and low carb days about 300grams max.

I used to get 1.5-2grams per pound of body weight, but i cut this down to about 1gram sometimes a little less and I am still recovering from my workouts at the same speed. As long as my recovery time is uneffected i really think any extra protein above that is just extra calories taken in (from a cutting stand point of course).
