OK so I just started working out like 5 days ago and usually I do cardio after strength training like 30-40 min but when I'm lifting weights and doing strength training I barely know how to use the equipment or free weights because I've never worked out before and I'm a beginner so I just want to know how you figured out how to use them. I can't get a trainer because the gym is free in my apartment. I'm 15 male. Also there is a sheet posted on the wall for the exercise machine that has different stuff on it and it labels what part of the body it uses should I just use that? I think its a adjustable pulley or something similar to that.

I talked to a lot of people and read some books. I eventually thought I knew what I was doing.
I did a lot of working out on my own and figured out what worked for me. I felt pretty confident I knew what I was doing.
I started watching a lot of videos and learned a ton of stuff I was doing wrong. Again, afterwards I thought I knew what I was doing.
I got on this forum and read a ton of posts and learn new tips and tricks literally daily. I now feel more than ever I know what I'm doing...and again I'm wrong. There is ALWAYS more to learn.

The routine I'm on now I made up myself from reading up on the kinds of programming other people were using and based on the specific exercises I wanted to focus on.
I have learned the different lifting movements over the years mostly by watching videos on youtube and exrx, reading articles, etc. and also by critiquing my own form by watching myself in the mirror and by taking videos. Discussing form with other dedicated lifters in the Exercises forum here on bb.com has also been very helpful. I also did a sport when I was in college, so I've had some good coaching along the way.How to eliminate lower back rounding (aka "butt-wink") in the squat, a definitive guide:

I learned the basic excercises from reading starting strength and youtube. I learned the basic concepts from the stickys and spending way too much time in the workout journals. And then I applied what I learned on these forums in the gym with a whole lot of trial and error. Some stuff worked and some stuff didn't; finding out what doesn't work is sometimes just as important as finding what does work.
