    Standing BB military press: how much do you lift?

    I keep seeing Bodyspace entries in which people say they can press over 100kg (220lbs) as their 1RM. I have never lifted more than about 80kg (176lbs).

    Sure, I might be super-weak or something, or have tiny shoulders - but I wouldn't have thought it. So: what's your one rep max?

    Oh, and if you don't go all the way down and all the way up, and use a grip that's a bit more than shoulder-wide, then you're not really the person I'm asking.

    shoulder wide seems kind of narrow brah.

    Anyways, I'm not that strong but i usually do 135 for 5 reps. So maybe, maybe a 155 rep max?

    Oh, I always grip just inside the knurling, so like my forearms and are almost perpendicular to the ground but a wee bit narrower on the bar.

    The people who press big weight are likely using either a little leg or a lot of leg. Not many people have huge presses anymore and its a slowww lift to progress at.

    Yeah. I suppose about a hand-width outside of shoulder-wide, or even a little more, is what I actually use. Shoulder width would be uncomfortable. I suppose I'm trying to say 'trying to minimize the amount of chest involved in the lift'.

    Fu*ken true man on both counts. I've experimented with some leg and you can add on like 20 lbs for 5 solid reps with just a little leg.

    I've been really trying to get my presses weight up but even with just increases of 5 lbs my 2nd and 3rd set's reps will suffer a bit.

    I had got my standing mili press upto about 60kgx2. Was pretty happy with that, but havn't done it in a while. I use DB's now.

    Just did 90kg(200 pounds) today. I don't even train them, they just go up as my bench increases.
    Hoping for 100kg(220 pounds) by christmas.
    Been working out for 4 months seriously
    Best lifts:
    Bench 120kg, military press 87.5kg, trap bar deadlift 225kg.
    End of year goals:
    Bench 135kg, military press 100kg, trap bar deadlift 270kg.

    Most i ever got was 180lbs x 1 but that was so hard and went from chin upto full straight arms.

    Not many people do it to say the least in my gym but i think its great.

    185 was my max and i never really did it much, i did do a lot of push presses and push jerks though. right now i mainly do bb press sitting.

    I'm not great at this lift at all. I think the best I got with strict form was 165x5. I don't think I've ever tried to max on this lift.
