    Running Away Muscle

    I have recently made a bet with one of my friends about who will look more 'cut' by late July. We are basically about the same build (6'1 185 lbs). I am trying to cut more body fat through the next month and have started really watching everything I eat as well as running more. My diet basically includes grilled chicken, cc, protein shakes, cashews, water, bananas, oatmeal, eggs, and turkey. My running has been a little bit of everything from elliptical to bike to treadmill on both lift days and offdays, (I lift heavy Mon, Wed, Fri).

    Basically my question is, can I run too much where I am burning off the muscle I am putting on?

    Also, any advice for trying to cut body fat, while maintaining muscle. Thanks in advance everyone.

    Yes you definitely can run too much and lose muscle. Just eat your weight in protein and stay clean. Then the running won't be very detrimental to the muscle.

    well i plan on doing 15 minutes of elliptical on lift days and 30 minutes of treadmill on non-lift days.

    you said 'clean'...what exactly are we talking about here? thanks for the help used2be300.

    Don't worry, your puny 30 min 1 mile will not have an effect ....maybe if you was running 6-10 miles per day. You prolly burned 100-150 cals not enough to have an effect , it might burn some fat making you leaner

    ouch. so how much should i run then? i don't want a puny amount of fat going away either, i wanna definitely look leaner. 3-4 miles on off days? 1 on lift days?

    If you are consuming sufficient protein and exercising your muscles through weight lifting, you will see very minimal affect. Running isn't going to waste your muscles away. I run 30 minutes a day @ 8mph.

    Edit: During my last hardcore month cut, I ran 8 miles a day split into 2 sessions for a total of hour per day 6 days a week. My diet was spot on and I lifted weights and I didn't see any of my lifts suffer at all.
