    30% Body Fat at 305

Ive always thought of myself as being in good shape despite being over 300 pounds, i went to join the national guard and they told me i was 30% body fat (only 2% away from being able to join)...my goal is to cut down to 250 what do you think my % would be if i get there??? Is 30% at 305 good???

30% isnt good no matter how you slice it. I was 33% at 245 or so and have cut down significantly from there.

at 250, depending on your fat/lean loss ratio, you should be right around 20-25%

30% even for a woman would be way high. 15% is "average" and I consider anything over 20% to be overweight/unhealthy. 30% is pretty damn bad. On the bright side, with you carrying 100 pounds of fat on your body you should be able to drop 3-5 pounds a week at first without much trouble.

Out of curiosity -- what is your height/waist measurement (waist taken at the navel) and how did they determine you were at 30%? Most people do a poor job of calculating BF% and I suspect yours might be much higher, even.

I say this only because at 300 pounds that would mean you have 200 pounds of lean mass. That's a lot. Which means, in order to have 200-lbs lean you would probably have to lift weights a lot... and yet, even most powerlifters aren't going to allow their bodyfat %s to drift as high as yours is - even assuming it's only 30%. So, it doesn't make much sense to me - unless you're like 6'8" or something.

I'm 6'2" i dont have anything here to measure. They did a neck and waist check. I agree that its more than likely higher. I do workout a ton though, i was 365 in march of last year, ive played 2 seasons of rugby and started doing circuits with a tractor tire since then. I'm a pretty solid guy but i even think 30 is a stretch

The combined percentage of the population that are 7' tall or pro-bodybuilders is probably like .0001%, odds are the OP is the later and not the former -- although he might just be a big hoss who is 6'8" or something.

You know, to be honest, that neck/waist thing from my experience has been fairly accurate actually.

ya i assume it be accurate if the national guard is using it...if i had a camera id take a picture of myself to show you all but i am pretty solid ive actually got definition in my arms and legs at 305 which i think is an accomplishment.

They are using the military body fat method. Chances are you are probably more then 30%. I'm your same height and I'm about 14 percent at 200. Depending on how strong/muscular you are, it could be a little more or less. If you are serious about getting in shape, I'd set a goal for 220 pounds and go from there. If you are truely 30% at 300, then 220 would put you at 10%. Considering some muscle loss might occur and the number is off, you could be as high as 20% at 220.

It is imo accurate within a few percentage. But I find it not as accurate the bigger you get. Neck size plays a huge part in their equation. So if you have a thin neck, you get screwed body fat wise. As you get thinner, the accuracy does increase in my experience.

Never heard of that. If you are 300 pounds, you could easily drop 10 pounds in one week if you haven't started. I'd bet 8 of that would be water and you could easily drop another couple of glycogen stores and fat.

Thats right 25% for male and 40% for female.

Op 2% is bodyfat especially at your weight would be extremely easy. Its better to go further but your looking at 1-2 months most likely. If your real dedicated even less than 20% is doable in 4-6 months. I was about 30% in January and now around 18%. Actually if you do the method your using or caliper it reads about 15%.

You should get one of those calipers and just take a measurement every month. Its really hard to predict what your BF% would be @ 250lbs.

    Woooow.

15% ain't average anymore, for sure. I guess I should re-state it as not looking overweight (although, the more lean mass you have the higher bf% you can get away with before looking unfit, IMO).

Lou Ferrigno was 250 6'5 when he competed at a young age and was freaking huge. Unless you're lifting like he did you'll have to cut to 220 (prolly 200) or below to be in good shape. If you don't care what you look like and just want to join the national guard lose 10-15lbs in 2-3 weeks and profit?

Sorry to break it to you, just having real talk. Post pictures for better answers.

Depends what your definition of inshape is lol, you have to be in pretty good shape to play as an NFL lineman and those guys are HUGE! By no means are they lean, but they are in pretty damn good shape.

Then theres Ronnie Coleman.... but we dont go there lol

SOME of them are in good shape...there are a couple that are leaner than average and pretty athletic. The average height of a O Lineman is like 6'7", average weight over 300lbs. If you are over 300lbs and 30% body fat but can bench 500lbs and block someone for several downs at a time doesn't equal good shape to me.

Yea, thats a bit different. Lots of athletic big dudes. You don't look too bad for being over 300. For some reason when I see your pic I immediately think of Jared Lorenzen lol

I was told I was at 28% from the measurment test. I just got some calipers so I guess in alittle bit I will have more acurate reading. People say I dont look 280 but hey some people are different..Im hoping when I get to 230 I will be good.

    Good luck.

That 2nd pic has got to be the worst pic in the history of pics to access anything lol. Good luck with your training though you should nail it pretty easily if your dedicated.I went from 297 exactly myself to 245 in 6 months so very doable.

How much weight do you have, also how heavy is the dumbell.

Craiglist = cheap weights from people who never use them.

I know what you mean man...on chest day a few weeks ago. I was resting and this girl was coming buy..I flexed my pec (just stretching it) and she looks and me and goes, strong chest...I was like....really... haha.
