If I sear a steak with olive oil should I count the calories of the olive oil or does it get fully absorbed? I also heard cooking with olive oil when the pan is hot causes it to turn into bad fat? Sorry for the novice question just wondering, thanks.

Canola oil is made from genetically modified rapeseed. Rapeseed oil is poisonous to living organisms... it is used in insect repellents.
But if you like your poison, go right ahead.
But you're right, it does have the least 'bad fats', just its poison, which kind of ruins it.Bulking at 3225kcal.

The canola plant was selectively bred from rapeseed over many generations for favourable fat characteristics. Just as farmers have selectively bred chickens, cows and a myriad of other fruits and vegetables for favourable characteristics.
There was no 'genetic modification' in the sense that the term is used these days. In fact the technology did not even exist when the canola plant was bred into existence.
Any oil can be used as an insecticide. Including olive oil. Oils smother small insects and suffocate them. ANY oil.
Overall you post was incorrect. Please stop spreading myth.
To the OP:
Olive oil would not get hot enough from a quick stint frying a steak and will not change the oil significantly. Just make sure to put the oil in only a short time before the steak.

Plus the flavor when it gets burned at hot temps is IMO not good at all.
Hope this helps

Really? I use it for stir fry fairly often and find it really adds to the taste. If it's not your thing, maybe try this instead:

I use it for stir fry and salads as well. Tastes great!
