    Jump rope vs. HIIT(running)

How much more effective is 30 minutes of Jumping rope vs. 15 minutes of HIIT (60 sec LISS jog/30 secs all out sprints)???

Not sure but I would rotate the workouts. Its good to keep the body guessing so it doesn't get used to the same workout. Helps make it less boring too if you aren't doing the same thing day after day.

In theory it IS NOT more effective...........as the HIIT boosts metabolism (by drastically varying your heart rate) for hours after you are done. A steady state cardio like jumping rop hasn't been shown to do this. Unless you jump at different speed intervals?

I don't know man.. jump roping for a minute interval is kind of intense...... i think you can do HIIT with jump rope if you just jump rope at a steady pace for a minute then have a minute and a half rest... and keep at it for 10-15 minutes.. sounds ALOT easier than it is.. you know your doing HIIT right when your heart is about to explode.

HIIT doesn't only involve sprints.. you can do it with anything.. i think jump roping is a great set up for HIIT.

i honestly don't know what burns more but its best to switch it up.. too many sprint sessions will wear out your quads and hamstrings, while jump ropes will tend to wear out your calves...

Depends what you're doing, if it's just standard skipping then no, not more effective. If you're doing double unders, criss-crossing, double under criss-crossing, criss-cross sprinting, etc. (basically everything you see Floyd Jr. doing in youtube videos), then IMO it's better than sprinting. Most people who knock jumproping have never tried intense routines, I used to be the same way until l learned a key element of a boxer's physique was skipping rope. Now I love the rope, can't get enough of it, only take breaks when my foot arches start to hurt.

When I do HIIT jumproping I've counted my heartrate in the 170's - 180's and sometimes feel like passing out. You probably could have the same intensity with sprinting, but with jumproping knowing that rope can whip you if you break form or slow down keeps you on top of your game.
