does anybody feel that they are being "controlled" by the government?

this seems to be a common fear amongst the right; that government is trying to control us.

I feel like I don't have a voice and that Americans no longer have control of government. We can all agree that the government was once controlled and powered by the people, but now, it seems that our government has become a separate entity of its own. No longer caring for our needs and ideas.

    Obamacare Will 'Control' American People

    http://www.newsmax.com/InsideCover/h...3/25/id/353869

The healthcare reform package will the American people, says Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., a staunch supporter of the bill.

Asked by Detroit radio host Paul Smith why if the bills insurance coverage is so important that the coverage isn t implemented until 2014, Dingell said,Were not ready to be doing it. This has been going on for years.

The process isnt a speedy one, he says.

The harsh fact of the matter is when youre passing legislation that will cover 300 million American people in different ways, it takes a long time to do the necessary administrative steps that have to be taken to put the legislation together to control the people

The important point is that the bill will put a halt to the 18,000 deaths that occurred last year due to lack of health insurance, Dingell says.

He has harsh words for Republicans who opposed the bill.

Our Republicans have spent a long time not participating, not helping, carping and delaying. But at the same time they have contributed nothing to this and have made no offer whatsoever as to what it is they want and stand for

Democrats regret not attracting any Republican votes, Dingell says. But we passed a piece of legislation that is fiscally responsible and will save over 20 years well over $1 trillion, for the American people. So the accomplishment is enormous

Smith asked Dingell why the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Federation of Independent Business opposed the bill if its so favorable to business.

Those are lobbying groups and have always opposed this kind of thing including Social Security and Medicare, the congressman said.

The numbers are against them. Small businesses will receive a significant tax subsidy of as much as 50 percent

Of course Republicans have strong arguments of their own for why they oppose the bill. Many, including Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah, believe its unconstitutional.

They want to force people to do whatever they want them to do. Thats what you call totalitarianism. It is not really good government he said on Fox News On the Record program.

In this country we believe in liberty. We believe in freedom. We believe people ought to have choices. We believe they can make their own choices. If they choose not to buy something, that is their privilege

The larger the population, the more the individual feels disenfranchised, because his voice counts for less.

When do you believe the government was powered by the people? Give me an exact date, don't just say "back then".

The government is supposed to be run by wise and respected, but otherwise "normal" people. That is how our country was founded, and that is how it came to be the biggest economy in the world. When the people see something that needs regulation, the people speak up, and the representatives elected by them go ahead and discuss the matters on their behalf.. at least that's how it's supposed to be.

Somewhere along the line politicians realized they can make money for having certain "opinions", and they can keep their offices in lieu of dissent because the people voting can unfortunately be herded and bought as well, accepting white lies and empty promises in exchange for "security" and small prizes (which they already paid for with taxes..) A 12% congressional approval rating despite many re-elected idiots is more than proof of this. Given the amount of time this has been going on, we now pay taxes into funds we will never benefit from, our money is being forcibly taken from us for things we don't wish to fund as a society, unpopular schemes (for lack of a better word) such as Obamacare and diversity laws are being embraced by our officials, and internet/nationalized radio regulation are actually being seriously considered despite huge public outcry. Drugs are a huge deal in government regulation, and the more they try to regulate them, the more they end up funding gangs and the violence that goes with them.

So yes, we are being controlled more and more by our government, and it's not even just with what we can/can't do. We are having our money thrown down the drain, our hard-earned national credit destroyed, our men and women overseas killed in unpopular wars and more. 1/3 of what you make is taken by the government and a good chunk of it wasted on things you don't wish to see funded, and the interest on loans for those things you don't wish to see funded. It's no different than if your dad were to take a third of your paycheck as a kid everytime you got paid, for the sole reason of getting drunk with it, then trying to justify his actions by giving you a sip here and there to appease you. If you aren't concerned, you aren't paying attention.

"Democrats regret not attracting any Republican votes, Dingell says. But we passed a piece of legislation that is fiscally responsible and will save over 20 years well over $1 trillion, for the American people. So the accomplishment is enormous"

Not exactly what CBO says now..

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/...ver-2-trillion

The CBOs most recent analysis is out, and its not likely to convince wavering House Democrats to jump to the Obamacare side of the fence. Even the Democrats are granting that the latest version of their proposed health care overhaul would cost $69 billion more than the previous version. According to the CBO, this version would siphon even more money out of Medicare, make even further cuts to Medicare Advantage, and levy even higher taxes and fines on the American people.

President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, and their allies, are cheerfully citing ;ten year costs of $940,000,000,000.00 apparently believing this to be a far more palatable figure than $1 trillion. But even this colossal tally is like the introductory price quoted by a cell phone provider. Its the price before you pay for minutes, fees, and overcharges and before the price balloons after the introductory offer expires.

For a variety of reasons, this tally doesnt remotely reflect the bills real ten-year costs. First, it includes 2010 as the initial year. As most people are well aware, 2010 has now been underway for some time. Therefore, the CBO would normally count 2011 as the first year of its analysis, just as it counted 2010 as the first year when analyzing the initial House health bill in the middle of 2009. But under strict instructions from Democratic leaders, and over strong objections from Republicans, the CBO dutifully scored 2010 as the first year of the latest version of Obamacare. If the clock were started in 2011, the first full year that the bill could possibly be in effect, the CBO says that the bills ten-year costs would be $1.2 trillion.

We've made huge strides in men and women of all races being seen as equal, but these are listed as inalienable rights by the Constitution, and were more or less regulated how they were via national opinions towards the matter than by our laws. The Constitution is forcibly giving rights many of our citizens now, despite the fact that it already has them covered by say ALL people are equal to begin with. Segregation is a whole different matter because that was actually seen as a good move at the time, despite backtracking from the freedom given in the Constitution.

Now the lawmakers are going too far, and forcing us to be different instead of a melting pot. It's a good thing to demand that all of our people are equal in the eyes of the government. It's a bad thing (and a control issue) to take someone else's right to free speech and opinion (even if it's a bad one) and force them to support someone they don't like, for whatever racist reason they may have. If someone is prejudiced in their business practices, let the good people of the free market show their dissent and hurt the business with a lack of interest in that person's market niche. There has to be a line drawn somewhere, and telling someone their opinion is wrong, however bad it may be, is against everything America was founded on.

Also, how ironic is it that someone who supports killing apostates and homosexuals is complaining about government control?

    The best part is this::

Venezuela Chavez says "Comrade" Obama more left-wing
Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday that he and Cuban ally Fidel Castro risk being more conservative than U.S. President Barack Obama as Washington prepares to take control of General Motors Corp.

During one of Chavez's customary lectures on the "curse" of capitalism and the bonanzas of socialism, the Venezuelan leader made reference to GM's bankruptcy filing, which is expected to give the U.S. government a 60 percent stake in the 100-year-old former symbol of American might.

Hey, Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama! Fidel, careful or we are going to end up to his right," Chavez joked on a live television broadcast.

During a decade in government, Chavez has nationalized most of Venezuela's key economic sectors, including multibillion dollar oil projects, often via joint ventures with the private sector that give the state a 60 percent controlling stake.

once again, you have dodged the question.
    how are you being controlled?

if its 'all about control' and you seem to think that you are aware of being controlled, tell me HOW?

or are you so controlled that all you can do is spew forth slogans about control?

This is America. Not another country who has a whole different system of governance. And yes how Ironic, an Indian Zionist who lives in America yet doesn't know their country's history. There's all kinds of oxymoron going on here.

You are a pretty hardcore liberal yourself, you support protectionism, oppose Israel (which is a liberal position), and support government hyper-regulation of companies you deem are outsourcing jobs. You are also strongly against the US military and foreign policy, once again, a liberal position.

No... This is what you asked me:
When do you believe the government was powered by the people? Give me an exact date, don't just say "back then".
This is the establishment of the American people having power over government. As to when did things change? I'm not sure... my point is, Americans have become voiceless even when trying to get Congress to listen to our demands.

How exactly are the American people voiceless? If everyone voted in someone, they would gain power, any disenfranchisement is merely caused by people having different opinions, and people get upset when they don't get their way. The kind of self-defeatist attitude you display is really sad. And consider that until about fifty years ago, your parents would not have been allowed to marry due to miscegenation laws... how can you claim that "back then" we were more free than we are today.

I don't feel as if I'm being controlled by Obama specifically. However, i do feel like we've allowed the government and police to get wayyyyy too powerful.
