    Waking up starving?

Ever since I started bulking about 6-7 weeks ago, I've been waking up in the middle of the night, about 4-5 hours after hitting the sack, absolutely STARVING. I've been eating right before going to bed to try and stave this off - usually the "gold standard" of cottage cheese + an apple...but that hasn't worked. In fact, no matter what I try eating before going to bed doesn't seem to matter. I've tried making myself feel quite full in hopes that it will last through the night...but no luck.

So my question is: Should I just eat in the middle of the night? I really don't want to get up and grab something to eat because whenever it happens I just want to fall back asleep and don't want to move! But I always lay there for an hour or longer anyways feeling hungry. If I should just eat, what should it be?

Eat more before bed, something slow to digest like oats or a steak. Cottage cheese and an apple will be out of your stomach in an hour or so.

You could shuffle around what you're eating now, but it's probably easier just to eat more. You're on a bulk, whether it's 500kcal over maintenance or 800kcal is not going to be a big deal. Being woken by hunger suggests to me that you're eating around maintenance, not having a surplus. Maybe some equations somewhere told you differently, but... you're waking in hunger.

    Eat more, just before bed.

I have this issue when cutting on 1,400-1,600 calories. I wouldn't suggest eating oats before bed though..just up the cottage cheese to at least a full cup serving w/ 1-2 tbsp of peanut butter. Make sure to eat that last meal right before bed.

    Same here.
I have a very good snack (cottage cheese+ricotta+banana) right before going to bed and then at 2:30-3:00 am I'm awake and cannot fall asleep because I'm simply hungry! So now I keep a glass of skim milk on my night stand. I drink it in the middle of the night.

Casein shakes seem to have fixed this prob for me. Possibly adding some toast/pb or greek yogurt with my shake works helped too.

I am having the same problem!!! NO matter what i am always hungry. At night i am starving before bed and wake up so hungry. I eat about 1600 to 2000 calories at day but not sure on the macros. Maybe I am missing something then. I hate it. Maybe I should up my calories, I dont know.

Late night cravings can be a sign of leptin imbalances do you usually lash out for carbs late at night if so this may be the issue, avoid all your simple sugars during the day and increase your fat intake fish flax oil, avocado, peanut butter, nuts, seeds, and all your cooking oils
