What happens when you super compress water

When I mean super compress, I mean like millions of PSI.

    Will it compress?

Will it turn into some sort of solid?

    Will it explode?

Will turn into a mini black hole?

Assume there's no way for steam to escape.

We're compressing it in a fully air tight compressor.

The compression will cause the atoms to collide and these collisions create friction. The friction generates heat eventually the heat will grow to the point of vaporization which will render the water into aerosol.

    Just a guess.

As insane as this sounds, I think I remember reading an article that this is EXACTLY what happens. Weird.

The water at the bottom of the ocean is compressed by the weight of the water above it all the way to the surface, and is more dense than the water at the surface.

A consequence of compressing a fluid is that the viscosity, that is the resistance of the fluid to flow, also increases as the density increases. This is because the atoms are forced closer together, and thus cannot slip by each other as easily as they can when the fluid is at atmospheric pressure.

Weak chem skills here. But nothing happens i believe. That is why they use liquid brake fluid since you cannot compress a liquid. (not 100% sure)

I think you're forgetting that we are compressing in an environment that does not allow for gas creating.

Here's what I think would happen.

I think the water would transition to a form of super heated semi-solid at millions of PSI.

and it would raise the boiling point for the water. Water can compress ever so slightly under hyooge pressures.

    See phase diagram for water:

    Cliffs:

-Normal ice you see is less dense than liquid water.
-However there exists other forms of ice that are more dense and will form under high pressure.

for all practical purposes, water is incompressible substance.

This. Most solids have multiple forms that show up under extreme conditions.

Water's very hard to compress. You can find out how much pressure will compress water by how much with an equation involving the bulk modulus of water, but I won't go into that.

In theory under enough pressure the water will turn into ice, but the increased pressure will increase the temperature and make ice harder to achieve. You need to consult a phase diagram (I think it was already posted in this thread but it looked a little more detailed than it had to be)

That will tell you what's up with water based on the temperature and pressure.

If you're talking about insane, basically unachievable extremes than yeah you would actually eventually produce a black hole. And before that you would actually push the electrons into the protons leaving just a mass of neutrons.

EDIT: That other phase diagram actually shows other important things, the one I found sucks

Steam seem logical. Compression would cause friction and friction generates heat so it could possibly cause steam.

Maybe because water does compress lulz. If it didn't sound waves couldn't be produced in water.

He's right that you'll never really have to worry about it compressing in hydraulics though, so from his engineering perspective yeah, but the op was obviously talking about an extreme pressure theoretical situation.
