I read somewhere that the Greeks used a ratio of 1.618 to 1 in their buildings to get pleasing proportions. It also said that they used this ratio as a shoulder to waist ratio in statues, and that a shoulder to waist (measured at navel level) of 1.618 is the most asthetically pleasing.
What's your ratio, and what do you think of this?

Just a fibonacci number and it shows up most everywhere in nature. Obviously the greeks were in tune with this and probably picked it as the most aesthetically pleasing because it was a fib number.
I want a 10:1 ratio...like an upside down equilateral triangle.

I prefer the waist to shoulder ratio, which is what Sumo's use. Much easier to achieve, eat eat and eat.
Oh, and you get to wear funny underwwear at the same time. Much more fun.pick it up and put it down

49.5" Shoulders and 32" waist. Ratio= 1.546875 after about a year and a half of weight training.
I've always been told I have a natural v-taper eventhough I had never worked out so I'm hoping I can build on this. I think the numbers the greeks thought were ideal are probably right on.NO! Try not. Do or do not. There is no try. - Yoda, Jedi Master.

There's no specific formula Kimberley. My preference is.. boobs should be bigger than waist...Waist should be smaller than hips. The overall shape should be similar to an hourglass. I'm at 1.560, though I've been chasing 1.618 for a while. I've also made the comparison on a two dimensional basis, and I'm at 1.62 if you measure the pixels of the width of my shoulders and the width of my waist, so I think I more need added thickness than width.

I think it is "Golden ratio" in architecture. I use it everywhere where a proportion need and is possible to do. It proved people like it.
