I just joined a gym, before I was working out with the football team but I decided to stop. In football squats were ATG or it didn't count. I was at the gym and I watched a few people squat, and all of them were barely half squats, it looked like a 1/4 squat. Is there any benefit at all to doing anything but ATG or 90 degree squats?

parallel squats are very beneficial. quarter squats don't do sheet and they can fuk up ur knees. if u can do ATG stick with it. i dont count it if its not at least parallel, but in the first few reps of the set i try to go ATG if i can

Welcome to the world of commercial gyms. Quarter squats and huge bonebreaking bounce benchpressing are the norm. In my gym I have seen skinny guys "bench" with only half the range of motion. 275 halfway down and the guy was feeling like a total badass......
Have been approached numerous times just because I squat very deep, I find it pathetic. Keep your technique the same and ignore these elite half squatters and bounce benchers.Florida Gulf Coast University Powerlifting

who doesnt see those people with like 2 plates on each side just using their sternum as a trampoline!!! So funny because its not me!!The gym is my dream girl. She's always there when you need her. She builds you up. She doesn't judge you, but does encourage you. She doesn't flake. She treats you the same if you visit her 3 times a week or 6 times a week. Everytime you're with her you feel really good and get endorphins flowing. She'll never leave you, you would have to dump her. She makes you a better, stronger person; Mentally and Physically

Quater squats actually work the tear-drop part of your quad to a much higher degree than a regular squat...
they dont involve the glutes, hamstrings etc as much, thus focusing soley on the main quad, and due to the extra weight you can put on, they can be used alongside squats to receive some very good leg gains (size, not strength, but this isnt a powerlifting forum)
Nice article i read in FLEX a few weeks ago, i guess its common sense
BUT guys on here will say "nah bro, it wont make you grow because it dont count in no powerlifting comp"
end of the day, squats > half squats, but half squats if used correctly can add some mass and shape to your quads.I havnt updated my lifting stats for a very long time.

Your still working the muscle to an extent, it's like doing half bicep curls, your not getting the full ROM but your still working it, it won't kill you to do some of them. For some reason everyone has the wierd mindset that you have to do a full ROM on every rep for every set for every exercise. Not true
You can be as cold as the winter weather but I don't care as long as were together <3

Just ask.
