20 min cardio workout burning 300 calories?

I found an article in an old issue of Muscle & Fitness Hers with cardio workouts that claim to burn 300 calories in 20 minutes. I tried out the workouts that don't involve machines and I was sweating a lot by the time I was done but I'm wondering, are 300 calories really being burned? I entered 20min intense aerobic into TheDailyPlate and it says about 115 calories were burned. Here are the workouts:

    Boot-Camp Blitz

Move immediately from one exercise to the next, or rest a few seconds between exercises if necessary by marching in place--just don't stop moving.

    TIME (MIN.) - EXERCISE
    3 - March in Place (warm-up)
1 - High March in Place
    1 - Glute Kick
    1 - Jog in Place
1 - High March in Place
    1 - Push-Up
    1 - Squat Thrust
    1 - Crunch
    1 - Split Jump
    1 - Step-Up
    1 - March in Place
    30 sec. - Plank
    1 - Skater's Step
    1 - Reverse Crunch
    1 - Side Lunge
    30 sec. - Plank
    1 - Squat Jump
    2 - March in Place (cool-down)

    ---------------------------------

    Boot Camp Blitz

Warm up by jumping rope (double bounce on each jump) for three minutes. (L) means left hand, (R) means right hand. Each set is 1 minute.

Jumping Jack, Jab (L), Jumping Jack, Jab (R)

Jumping Jack, Front Kick (L), Jumping Jack, Front Kick (R)

Jumping Jack, Uppercut (L), Jumping Jack, Uppercut (R)

Jumping Jack, Side Kick (L), Jumping Jack, Side Kick (R)

Jumping Jack, Cross (L), Jumping Jack, Cross (R)

    Jump Rope (alternate step)

    Knee Raise (L), Roundhouse (L), Cross (R), lab (L)

    Knee Raise (R), Roundhouse (R), Cross (L), Jab (R)

Uppercut (L), Hook (R), Front Kick (L), Back Kick (R)

Uppercut (R), Hook (L), Front Kick (R), Back Kick (L)

    Jump Rope (alternate step)

    Squat, Side Kick (L)

    Squat, Side Kick (R)

Cool down by jumping rope (double bounce on
    each jump) for two minutes.

300cals in 20mins = 15calories per minute. Very very unlikely unless your HR is > 85-90% for the entire 20mins and your body weight is on the high side. If you want a more reliable method of measuring, invest in a decent HR monitor.

Agreed. While it is possible that someone might burn 300 calories by performing one of these workouts, too many variables exist: what does the person weigh, what is their RMR, etc.? Articles that include broad statements like that are generally untrue for most of the population. They are used to entice people to buy their mags.

If you want to know what you are burning in this time, buy an HR monitor and measure it.

Yeah that's what I figured. It's insane how they get away with publishing that and makes me wonder how many women do the exercise then eat any extra 300 cals thinking they can get away with it lol
