I've been hearing from a few people that it only slightly works your bicep. It does a lot of forearm and most importantly there are more effective exercises? If so, I will surely take this exercise out and add something like incline dumbbell press or some preacher curls.
thanks

lol i thought the same thing..
to op: hammer curls mainly target the brachialis (upper arm between biceps and triceps) and brachioradialis (forearm) but they definitely stimulate the biceps to a good degree as well. if you want to make it more effective for the biceps while still hitting the brachialis (this muscle definitely helps add some mass and thickness to the upper arm) try doing your hammer curls with slightly lighter weight and at the top of the motion supinate the wrist while holding the brachialis in an isometric contraction, turning the palm towards the ceiling/outside of the arm~-Mr. PHF 2009-~

the primary thing the bicep does is serpinate the hand, it really doesn't lift the hand towards the shoulder that much.
a hammer curl works the forearm and brachialis which is underneath the long and short head of the bicep, doing hammer curls will develop your forearms and it make help push your bicep upward which would help the peak height of the bicep.

thanks a lot. I appreciate the quick responses.
Basically I am just trying to create routines which allows me to get maximum for every muscle. I know there are a lot of workouts and so many muscles which can be worked out and therefore so many variations. I was just curious as to what people think of hammer curls and you've obviously help convinced me that it works biceps and I should still include it.
and Incline bicep curls is when the bench is in on an incline, so you have a larger ROM.Strong-Ass Jew Crew

I think a lot of people (myself included) put wayyyy too much thought into this. Considering you should be changing your routine every few months (or less) does it really matter if this routine isn't perfect, no. So include them this time, leave them out next time. It doesn't really matter. This is an on going process. So try with the hammer curls see how your arms look in a couple months. If you find you don't like them, then change them. No one rountine is going to make you huge or ruin your physique.
