Sleep Aid during contest prep?
3.5 weeks out from my first contest....its taking me longer and longer to fall asleep...and some nights, even hard to stay asleep!
I did a forum search on this topic this morning and not only was I unsucessful in truning up any new information, i read that diphenhydramine, which is the main ingredient in the walgreens knock off pill I have been trying, is said to supress your body's natural release of gh?! Obviously, putting on muscle is not the goal of my cut, but the idea that I am knocking myself further outta wack?!?!?!!? I may loose my mind lol
I am about to pick up some melatonin or vitamin shoppes snooze right on the way home and toss the other stuff....
help!

That's not my name.
Hey - instead of a hardcore sleep-aid or PM pain killer than can ickify your liver, have you thought about trying effervescent magnesium? There is this stuff called "Natural Calm" and you can get it at most healthfood stores. It's basically powdered magnesium that you stir into water and swig down right before you settle into bed. There's nothing narcotic in it that makes you sleep, but the magnesium and calcium really help to relax you and then you just kind of fall asleep naturally. I use it more than I use my Rx for Ambien!!!
I am, after all, a heavenly blessed beauty, whose inner beauty and beauty is simply divine and everlasting.

Bought the bedtime tea by yogi and it was awful straight up! Sooooo I bought the Calming tea bags, also by yogi, and that one is far superior in taste and I really do think it is relaxing me. I also bought Snooze Right by Vitamin Shoppe.
Its really helping! No more chemicals for me!

My usual sleep aid routine before a show looks something like this: 10-15 min. hot Epsom salt bath an hour before bed, 100mg of 5-HTP spaced out an hour before bed and possibly some sleepy time tea. I also take Calcium/Magnesium late in the day. I have never relied on anything like Tylenol PM, etc. for sleep, I refuse to go that route... Melatonin helped for awhile, then I had issues where I would would be wide awake about 4 hours after taking it. It did help temporarily though.

snooze right was working up until last night...ended up resorting to the walgreens knock off knock ya out pill
the calming tea by yogi works...but I'm trying to learn to live without it because come THIS thursday I don't get any fluids after 8pm so a tea right before bed (10pm) isn't gona work

comatose
I use the supplement called comatose for around a month before a show. it really helps. Has melatonin and lots of herbals in it. Could also try just melatonin which i take when not competing.
