maximal daily calorie deficit for fat loss--any truth??

the rate at which the body can get energy from it’s fat stores is about 31.4 calories per pound per day.

maximal daily calorie deficit for fat loss is approximately 31.4 cals per pound of fat???

For example, a 200 pound man at 15% body fat would have 30 pounds of fat, enough to provide about 940 calories of energy over the course of a day. Assuming he reduced his calories intake to 940 below maintenance for a day, by the end of the day he would have lost about a quarter pound of fat

However, if your going for maximum fat loss not all 940 calories are going to come from fat cells, so maybe for this 200lb (hypothetical) person a 1100 calorie defecit will be maximum fat loss?

So, i am 190 now and 9% body fat, so 17.1 pounds of fat 17.1*31.4= 537 calorie defecit?? I am currently on a 1000 calorie defecit, not losing any strength (hopefully that means not losing any muscle),

any truth to this 31.4 cals per pound??

Lyle McDonald wrote an article like this for mindandmuscle.com - with the same 31kcal/lb number.

He makes a point to line out that number is strictly for dietary deficit, and doesn't account for any activity or exercise. So, counting for exercise you can actually push a larger deficit without losing lean mass.

That's pretty interesting and actually gives some reasoning why at a certain BF%, it becomes increasingly difficult to drop BF. Great thread/link!
