I need some major help.
I've been doing alot of ab exercises and cardio hoping to bring my six-pack out of the darkness but I cant seem to have them be there without me flexing them. They look pretty good when I'm flexing them esp after a heavy workout session but when its not flexed it looks like I've just got a flat waist( little muscle definition )
Could it be the fact that I'm not taking any Protein Supplements ( I stopped taking them so as to lose weight faster when I found out that you need less than 10% bodyfat to expose your abs so I thought it would be a waste to take Protein if I'm trying to lose body fat anyway now Im @ 6.7% bodyfat
Please help

Can't really advise you without seeing your current condition. Post a pic of yourself.

I'm doubtful that you're actually 6.7% and look flat. How did you measure this?
That body fat should be low enough. Keep doing weighted ab exercises and hopefully you get there.
Protein is still essential when cutting down. Without it you're going to be losing a lot of muscle along with the fat.

You aren't "6.7%" bf then. I don't care what your testing protocol is.

if you are not using weight when you are doing your ab exercises that wont be as defined and chiseled as you probably want. more reps with no weight wont get them looking nice. so just keep up the same reps and add weight and youll see a difference

If you are 6.7%, you are either:
1. Not 6.7% (very likely, 6.7% is extremely low)
2. Have no ab separation (ie no 'six pack', you abs are genetically one flat sheet)
3. Have weak, small abs.
I'd guess that you are both 1 and 3. 2 is rare.GOMAD!

If your body fat is truly that low then you simply don't have enough actual muscle to give your midsection that pop you are looking for. It is true you need lowish fat levels to see a full six pack but if you are 5'9" 120 then chances are you don't really have enough muscle to look flexed while relaxed.
Another issue could simply be bf miscalculation. The only time I was ever as low as your measurement was before I stared lifting/ really eating.

Why the hell would you skip the protein during cutting? Protein is essential in many more ways than simply building muscle, it'll also help you maintain it. And it's usually harder to digest, increasing your metabolism. That's why high-protein diet for the obese is growing popular.
And as said, your not 6% unless your just tiny And im sure you can have sixpack at 10% or above depending on your size and genetics.
Edit: Sorry if it come off the wrong way Read up on nutrition on cutting, that's the essential part of it. And post pics, height and weight for good advice on these boards, there's no reference point now but a probably inaccurate number.Last edited by BigAppetite; 06-01-2010 at 11:01 AM.

May I suggest you have no abs to show?
a) you may have been doing too much high intensity cardio and not getting enough fuel (calories) forcing your body to use protein. This can be remedied mostly, by taking more than usual protein
b) you lowered protein intake. This is the opposite of what you should have done. Your abs were probably used as fuel for your body.
c) you probably trained them too frequently. ie. you overtrained them, damaged them, and did not let them recover and grow, instead making them smaller.
Bottom line here is, you probably dont have any abs to show mate. Stop cutting and bulk the hell up, following a proper routine.Bulking at 3225kcal.

Stop doing sets of 50 sit-ups and switch to other weighted ab exercises in sets of 10-20... Also, you could try working your obliques more.
I have also found that doing exercises with a twisting motion on your abs rather than straight up and down can spur more definition... And eat clean obv

Start getting an adequate protein turn over rate into your diet for starters, second chuck out whatver method you were using to check your bodyfat and look for a reputable one. and third abs are fast twitch they are meant to be trained explosively with high volume 8-12 hypertrophy you can go wrong.
I'm most lickly eating right now.

1) post pic.
2) how did you calculate your current bodyfat and try a different bodyfat % measurement.
without these 2, i dont think the general public can properly help you.

Cut protein out because your trying to lose bf??? What kind of diet are you trying to follow? Protein is unquestionably the most important macro nutrient.

LOL, agreed, honestly man I was gonna send you a pm last night randomly just thanking you for your help, I would be stunned if you remembered, but I was one of the random new posters acting about how to get big like a year ago, and you replied just helping me out basically, believe it or not, one or two of us do actually listen, I am now sitting at around 167 or so 8 % bodyfat, started at 138, multiple bulks and two cuts later, good times, appreciate your help.
