Can too much fruit make you fat?

    you eat 40 apples a day = 4000 cals
    you gain weight

Too much of anything is bad.

Too much food will make you fat. And yes, too much fruit will make you fat but not because fruit is composed of sugar/fructose.

Assuming that by "too much" you mean something in excess that is not expended or utilized, then "too much" of anything with caloric content (energy) will make you fat. Basic thermodynamics.

Too much sugar can also make you crave water/fluids to compensate for the rise in blood sugar levels.

    1 banana = 105cal/27g carb/1.3g protein/0g fat/420mg potassium
    30 bananas = 3150cal/810g carb/39g protein/0g fat/12600mg potassium
    50 bananas = 5250cal/1350g carb/65g protein/0g fat/21000mg potassium

    fabulous macros there....

Hyperkalemia (hyper- high; kalium, potassium; -emia, "in the blood"), is an elevated blood level of the electrolyte potassium. Extreme hyperkalemia is a medical emergency due to the risk of potentially fatal abnormal heart rhythms (arrhythmia).

Fructose is a little tricky as it is metabolised a little differently than other sugars...but yes, if you apply according to the laws of thermodynamics...you should be just fine...

hyperkalemia wouldn't result from consumption...the kidneys would have to fail, or use of potassium-sparing diuretics, burns, rhabdomyolosis, etc...

It can if the dosage is high enough for even healthy kidneys to filter out excess potassium ions into the urine quickly enough. I don't know if 12-20/day grams of potassium is enough to cause intoxication, but its extremely high. The level of K in the blood is maintained at 3.5-5.0 mEq/L, with 5L of blood on average.

IN ANY CASE, it's ridiculous to eat 50 bananas a day, everyday. As it's ridiculous to eat nothing but meat, for example.

how would they know if its the fruit thats making them fat unless they only eat fruit all day everyday.

yes fruit can make you fat just as macdonalds can make you fat. its just harder to get fat from less calorie dense foods.

If that's indeed true, what makes you think it's due to their diet? Meat contains everything necessary for healthy life. Carbs are non essential. Eskimos have never heard of diabetes or cardiovascular disease.

Glad you posted this, OP. I was wondering about fruit smoothies made with splenda...like from smoothie king. I don't gain from these, I get the small size...they are to die for, wouldn't want to give them up.

Somewhat off topic but if you're eating a combo of fruits and grain foods, eat the fruits first THEN the grain products on top of it. Having the grains first then fruit on top is a bad mix for the stomach.

Hence if you eat too much fruit that you exceed your macros then you get fat, otherwise they are fine.

because the fruit gives of gases with nothing laying on top to prevent them escaping/bloating ?

I've been trying to google info about whether the order of food you eat matters....like fat slows down digestion so does fat need to be eaten before protein...or at the same time (eg scrambled egg). trying to find info on how food sits in the stomach in layers (or does it seperate?), or whether it just goes into a big mixed up bowl.
