If you do it like your supposed to its very effective. Just don't be the guy that just does pushups and pullups and doesn't get any results and then blame crossfit. All my prs for bench, squat, deadlift and shoulder press constantly grow and you get to do most Olympic lifts. Only negative is that some of the workouts are a killer and they hurt.

Its great cardio. I prefer to lift for pure strength at this point in my life.

I incorporate 1 crossfit training day into my weekly workouts. Awesome stuff. You get your cardio, strength training and endurance in 1 shot. Do crossfit properly and you will be puking buckets. I suggest upping calories on Crossfit days.

just looked to see if there was a crossfit gym in my area

I'll start by saying if crossfit is done correctly with good form its probably a heck of a workout
but when I see people doing the WOD in my gym with weight they have no business with, doing 1/16th rom, and videos on youtube of the worse powerclean form ever, its hard to take the elitist dbag attitude seriously that many crossfitters have.
do the exercises correctly with weight you can handle, and I would respect you.
Also, olympic lifts aren't meant to be done in high rep sets. trying to do as many cleans as possible with a set weight is how people get hurtMisc Strength Crew

Honestly ive never seen any amazing physiques come out of crossfit. No epic changes in body composition via fat loss or muscle mass gain.
It is a combination of several aspects of training that seems to create a mediocre athlete. Inb4 150lb "fighters" claim its the end all be all.
While it does make small changes in most of those aspects the only major thing it seems to do is make you better at crossfit.
Ive done it in the past. Having said that i am not a believer. I know people in the industry and it has marketing scam written all over it.
If you enjoy crossfit then have at it. Do your thing and be respectful if you do it in a normal gym. I do however strongly believe that there are better ways to train for damn near any field of interest."Obsession is just a word the jealous and weak use for dedication."
