Casein has its own benefits as oppose to whey. Whey is a faster processing protein which is good to get the muscles fed right away (after workout). Casein is great for right before bed, because it is a slower processing protein which will keep your muscles fed throughout the night while your body is in a catabolic state.
So to answer your question I do not believe Casein is a waste of money.B e a s t M o d e [ON] OFF

The point of Casein is to keep your body in an Anabolic state, while not eating for such a long period of time (6-8hrs.) your body will go into a Catabolic state, which is what we don't want. Also, you won't have such an insulin spike when you do eat in the morning, which is what we want to keep at a low level at all times possible. Keeping it low, keeps our body in that Anabolic state, I mentioned and keeps our body in the best state to build muscle...I believe.

Yeah, you dont NEED any supplement really, and for casein its one of those things that you can get from food easily so its more of what works best for you. Some people eat cottage cheese before bed...I hate cottage cheese, so I'd pick milk or casein instead. How often do I buy casein? Rarely. Whats important is that you just make sure your diet is in check and that you are getting the proper nutrition through the entire day.

Hi, I am interested in buying casein protein too.
But after watching this vid, I became skeptical with it.

I'm not really a huge fan of casein. It can be somewhat of a gut irritant in some people (myself included) and isn't necessarily better over another protein source. While there is the common usage of it before bed I remember reading somewhere that food consumption before bed can interfere with various hormonal feedback mechanisms that go on throughout the night, in essence lowering the quality of sleep. Now the actual changes may be negligible and not that detrimental, but I'd prefer to not potentially mess with my recovery.
I've come to think that a lot of the nutrient timing stuff and so on is overrated anyway including a lot of the hoopla concerning macro-nutrient sources and so on. Eat plenty of meat, vegetables, and fruit to hit your daily macro-nutrient requirements and you're fine. There's little need to really concern yourself with getting X ratio of protein from Y source and so on."Glory, as anyone knows, is bitter stuff."

One thing for sure all Casien proteins taste ****ing awesome... But for the price they lose the edge that whey has over normal groceries. I think the only people that can be better off with casien over real food are guys cutting that can't have milk or cottage cheese pre bed due to extra calories.

Ok, so what's the trick to getting the Optimum Nutrition Casien Protien powder to not be thick? I've tried 1 scoop with 8-12 oz of skim milk, with water, (tastes horrible with water) in a shake cup, in a blender....
Too thick for my liking, but I tollerate it. Can't stomach cottage cheese so I need my casien powder. Is there any Casien out there that doesn't have such a high viscosity upon mixing? Looking for something similar to my EAS Myoplex Whey with milk combo, where it basically tastes and feels like chocolate milk. Nice low viscosity similar to the flow of water!
I've heard that for Whey, you can't beat Syntrax Nectar as it taste like kool aid, lol!
A Syntrax Nectar Casien would be great!
Also, wtf is this junk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0A0U...eature=related
