I am new and wanting to tone!

I'm 17 years old and I've just started to be getting more into shape. I go to the gym a few times a week but i'm still not 100% sure what I should be doing. My goal is to tone up a bit. I do not need to lose weight at all, I'm just hoping to tone my stomach and my thighs a bit. Any advice on some workout techniques I could try to accomplish this would be very helpful!

Well. Do you have muscle mass? Are you skinny fat? I don't know what your stats are but perhaps you would like to drop a bit of bodyfat and put on some more muscle. I think it would be good if you knew what type of body you wanted. Me personally, I am overweight but I have alot of muscle mass so I want to drop bodyfat so that muscle I have can be seen. To do that, I got my diet in order, I lift heavy weights with low reps and do cardio after lifting weights. Lifting weights helps me with body composition so that I don't become a "smaller version of myself". Start by reading all of the stickys that are at the top f the forum. Alot of advice on how to figure out how many calories you should be consuming a day. Take some time to read before you start posting. Just my .02.

being as you cannot physically "tone" your body you can certainly gain muscle mass and more definition on the lower, upper, mid and overall body.

Are you currently on any weight lifting program? I see too many teenage girls come into the gym and have no idea on what to do.. My 14 yrs old daughter squats, deadlifts, and pretty much does what I do so you are at a perfect age to start Dont be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure on how to do an exercise correctly. for your "lower body"

squats, deadlifts, lunges, step ups, good mornings, hyperextensions (killer on the hams) leg press (not a big fan but still good when beginning) leg extensions, leg curls. enough weight to do 10-12 reps to start as you feel yourself getting stronger and if you want more muscle mass 8-10 reps is also good

when working "abs/obliques* use some resitance/added weight don't do the mistake of doing hundreds of situps all that will cause is endurance keep it at a good enough weight to perform 20-25 reps 4 sets atlest 3x a week.

This is if your eating is good not sure how ur diet is but you need to eat clean to see good results!!!

    Hope this helps somewhat

If you go to the Supersite Section for women, then click on "For Women" on the left hand side, then scroll down a bit and check out a great article called the Female Training bible - you will learn so much from t and will probably answer all your questions. It covers the type of exercises you can do and gives you a program, as well as proper nutrition etc.

    Hope this helps!
