I know theirs guys out there who can leg press 1000 pounds and more.. but I dont really want too, I dont want to risk all that weight on me if something goes wrong. I will usually do squats at 8-12 reps as heavy as I can then with leg press i'll put enough weight on that'll get around 25 reps out of then drop set the weight untill my legs are burnt out.
Does anyone else share this worry when it comes to extremely heavy leg presses and does anyone else know a good way of using the machine other then how I do? Id like a few new ideas?

I lift weights because I enjoy it.. I don't diet because I dont enjoy it.
I train when I want, sleep when I want, eat what I want and drink what I want.
I get s**tfaced at the weekends and I f**k anything that moves.
You dont like it? Come at me you low carb eating, cell tech injecting *******!! ;)

How is the heavy weight on leg press more dangerous exactly then the heavy weight on say squat or bench press?Do you feel "fear" on every exercise?
For the record, you do not have to put on 1000 pounds to gain.
I really don't see the point of this thread.
Personally, i see leg press as one of THE best leg builders, and unless i really have to do otherwise for some reason, ill use it that way,not as a "50 rep burnout" exercise.bb.com, a place that turned Deadlift into a forearm isolation exercise
and a place where 99% of 21 year olds have bad back and knees.

Use the correct range of motion to avoid back rounding and you'll be fine. If you are really scared, do one legged leg presses. You'll be using less weight by nature and it's nearly impossible to round your back with them. Just start light and work your way up.

All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the legpress
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain..we can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the legpress
Baby take my hand...don't fear the legpress
We'll be able to fly...don't fear the legpress
Baby I'm your man...
Valentine is done
Here but now they're gone
Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity...Romeo and Juliet
40,000 men and women everyday...Like Romeo and Juliet
40,000 men and women everyday...Redefine happiness
Another 40,000 coming everyday...We can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the legpress
Baby take my hand...don't fear the legpress
We'll be able to fly...don't fear the legpress
Baby I'm your man...
Love of two is one
Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn't go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
The candles blew then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared...saying don't be afraid
Come on baby...and she had no fear
And she ran to him...then they started to fly
They looked backward and said goodby...she had become like they are
She had taken his hand...she had become like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the legpressWho was this love of yours?

the leg press at my gym has a safty catch, so you cant really get pinned in with the weight crushing you.. if thats your fear?
I rarely do the leg press, not out of fear. But because everyone at my gym who believe they are training legs, skip the squat and go directly to the leg press hemming it up.My 5/3/1 progress can be found here.

I don't do the leg press machine very often, but I did for some reason during my last max effort squat session. I found that my legs are long enough to not have to move the safety thingy, ie I can do concentric leg presses off/above the saftey bar, so the issue of the weighs coming crashing down is a non-issue since it could never happen. I've got a 39" inseam though. Ahh, now I remember why I don't do the leg press machine very often, the thing sucks.
