I offered this guy $1000 a few days ago. He came back and said since he didn't really want to sell the stuff, he wouldn't take less than $2000. WTF? If you don't want to sell, why is it on Craigslist?

The average CL price for used plates and dumbbells seems to be about $.50/lb, and that's what my local Play It Again Sports store charges as well. Prices for Powerblocks are all over the place though, so it really depends on your local market. I would guess somewhere in the $400 range."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I'm getting a little tax money back, and want to get a lat pulldown.
Which would be more worth my while?
This:
http://scranton.craigslist.org/spo/3530913156.html
This is a York, but is 100 bucks more and probably about 1 1/2 hour drive
or this:
http://reading.craigslist.org/spo/3623879848.html
Which is a TDS, but is 100 bucks less, and only about a half-hour drive?

Of those two, I'd take the York, no question.
The twin guide rod setup for the plate carrier should be smoother and less likely to bind than the square tubing of the TDS, and I like the location of the center vertical support of the York better than the TDS. There's a lot of stress on that area during use, so I'd want the center post to be roughly centered between the set and the weight stack to decrease the leverage on that upper joint. I'm having a hard time explaining myself right now, but look at the pics and you'll probably see what I'm talking about."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I've looked at their website samsonequipment.com and there's no pricing information. It's definitely an older rack, older than anything on their site. It looks sturdy and comes with j-hooks, safety bars. Thanks for the feedback. I'm just starting out, so I'm wondering if this is "too much" rack for me?

On that samson rack, I've seen the craigslist add. The question is, can you lift on it...(Yes). It looks beat up, but we don't buy them to look pretty necessarily. I thing to think about, is will you want attachments later. On that rack you'd most likely have to get custom stuff. Make sure you measure your ceilings too, don't want to have to sell it b/c it won't fit in your lift space.
I saw it and considered it, but went with a new rack for $1000 from Sorinex.
If you can get the rack for $350-$400, ( which would be my target amount) you can use it and most likely make your money back when you decide to upgrade, but you may never need to step up if you are just using it for basic power rack stuff of squat , bench, etc.
If you are in the $500 range consider the new body solid shipped for $489 new that's being advertised on Craigslist/ebay.

I considered this one, but 6 hours in time and gas just aren't worth it to me yet. then again, it's 2 hours there and back for the samson. there was a lamar one that i missed a week or two ago. thanks for your feedback! honestly, i just want something to be able to safely do the starting strength program.

ok.
This. And if he wouldn't have gotten sand in his panties I would have been more than happy to explain that to him AND he wouldn't have had to ask to be banned.
Everyone starts with one post...why would someone delete a post for that reason alone. That....would be stupid.Last edited by cgc; 02-19-2013 at 12:01 PM.
