here some pics of them. Just used the dumbbells not to long ago and have to say Im pretty pleased with them. They are very stable and easy to change the weights. Thanks dumb.bell for steering me away from those bowflex dumbbells a week ago I can tell that easy are alot better quality. The bench isin't that bad either its stable, folds up, and has a carrying strap so you can transport it easily. Its also only 15 inches tall so I might start doing some box squats with it.

Bumper Plates on CL
I'm working on building a home gym. I live in a second floor apartment, so I am looking for something that would be quite and allow for a wide variation in lift options. This has lead me to look for bumper plates on craigslist.
The only draw back is that I have no idea what the resale value on them are. Any input would be greatly appreciated. This is what I'm looking at:

Competition Kettlebells - $400 (Chattanooga)
I have 4 MDUSA (muscle driver) kettlebells (16,20,24 and 32kg) for sale. Great condition, save a ton on shipping.
New price from MDUSA for those kettlebells is $345. He is selling used kettlebells for a premium. But you save on shipping. Considering MDUSA is only about 4 hours away from me, I could buy new and pay for the gas to pick 'em up and still come out ahead of his "deal."Last edited by RestoringTally; 04-10-2014 at 06:14 PM. Thanks for the comment. Do you mind explaining your thoughts on why you think they may be a worse idea? I was thinking that it would be quieter to deadlift with bumpers than regular plates.
Another thing I should probably bring up is that I'll be moving in a year to a place better for lifting. I'd rather make an investment now instead of having to buy bumpers next year in addition to regular plates now.

Same applies to deadlifting. Buy a stall mat and/or make a cheap 4x8 platform to deadlift on.
If you're set on bumper plates, search iron mike in the inland empire cl. He sells new bumper plates for about a 1-1.20/lb new. I'm actually driving up tomorrow from SD. He's just 15 mins north of Temecula. Some guys just buy a pair or two of 45's then use iron weights for the smaller plates.Ivanko Barbell Crew #61

Bumper plates (or rubber/urethane coated) are only going to eliminate the sound of plates clanking together. They're not going to help with the sound of a few hundred pounds hitting the floor during deadlifting or the sound of a loaded bar being racked after bench presses/ squats."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

You think grabbing all this stuff for a grand is worth it? I'd end up re listing the Smith machine but the bench bar and plates would definitely be worth keeping.

Just like a typical craigslist buyer to assume the bar is free. Offer $200. You'll want to check the backs of the plates before you buy. They're 2nd grade economy plates and the casting varies from gorgeous to ugly. Most of the casting defects are on the backs of the plates.
Edit: I should add that it's more likely that the casting quality will be good than bad. But you should check. I usually hand pick them when I buy them so that I only buy the ones with gorgeous casting --they can be very nice plates. Beside the different color, the O2B are pretty much indistinguishable from O plates (not machined OM). For some reason, most of the plates that had bad casting were 10s or 25s. Some had large voids in the back. I found a whole stack of 10s like that and some 25s as well.Last edited by morebarbell; 04-11-2014 at 10:19 AM.
