this is a better setup.
dallas.craigslist.org/sdf/spo/3562755726.html for basic stuff.
keep the power rack and the weights, re-sell the leg press for 200 bucks and the treadmill for whatever you can get for it, get a setup for free, or damn close to it. You basically want a cage, barbell, weights and bench. After that adjustable dumbbells are nice, but not totally necessary.
If you can, grab something like this quick and sell the extras. It will go fairly quickly
There is another good deal on a promaxima cage in tulsa, but you'd have to check the dimensions b/c of ceiling height, as I think it's 8.5 ft tall.
The first one i posted will fit under normal ceilings.

here's that promaxima. check height before you buy. It's a better quality rack than the northern lights.
I bought a high quality hoist smith and am in the process of selling it to finance a power rack setup, even though I like it. There are plenty of threads about why a rack over smith is the way to go. If you are dead set on a really good smith though, I'm down in Austin, and I have mine.
That particular smith you linked to is bleh.

Registered so I could get advice on this thread. My new year's resolution is to bench press 300 lbs for 1 complete rep. I'm at 225 right now and I'd like to not have to join a gym and be able to do this at home before I go to work. After reading these forums, I'm convinced a power rack, olympic bar and weights would be the way to go. I live in Austin and I was wondering if this is a good deal:

Any replies would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Man - I would have jumped all over the Hammer Strength leg press and iso lateral bench press. Some of the prices were "meh" on that auction, but it was a great price for both of those pieces (and some others in the auction too).
This isn't craigslist, but there's a Icaraian Precor adjustable bench on ebay in my area. I have a Hoist bench that's pretty solid, but it has the leg ext/curt attachment that always annoys me. Anybody try out this bench before?

Hey guys,
I don't mean to just spam this forum for advice and be all dear diary. But since losing those dumbbells I feel like I've been on tilt looking for a deal to get my garage gym started. What do you guys think about the one I posted above? Bench should be really high quality and everything looks nice. I can separate it from the rack right? Good starting weights for the DBs too. I plan on buying a power rack when i get my own place bur the little stand with bumpers should suffice well until then just no benching heavy. Thoughts? Does it look like a Good deal to y'all?

The price of the stuff you listed is priced decently for what you're getting. You're getting 260 lbs. of free weights and 300 lbs. of dumbbells. At .50/lb. thats ~$280.00. So you're getting everything else for $120. The bench seems in good shape but there a dime a dozen. Personally I would contact the seller and offer less especially if this has been listed for a long time.
I am curious as to why would you put off purchasing a rack instead of this bench until you move out? The space that the bench takes up is comparable to what a rack would take up. Also, the resale value of a rack is much higher and is a quicker sale if you wanted to upgrade.

When I buy a rack I want to get a really good one (most likely an r-3) and have it bolted to my floor. I know my parents don't want anything bolted down in their garage. So the idea was that I am going to have to buy a bench at some point so this could get me lifting at home now and i could remove the rack and have the powertech bench stand alone for later. However it seems that I won't be able to use the bench as a standalone because of the way it is connected to the rack and I think that will be a deal breaker unfortunately.
Thanks alot I really appreciate it. Reps when I get on the computer!

^^ This. The DB's look good The weights & bars are probably generic and ok. I will not take the bench since it cant be used inside a rack. But from the power rack thread I get that you are not planning on getting one. The only way to use it safely would be to add spotters. I still wouldnt recommend it and instead suggest a power rack or atleast a half rack.

Guys/gals,
recently emptied my basement and am creating a home gym space. I pretty much need everything, but my priorities are a bench, plates, dumbbells, and a bar. I have an older hammer strength power rack but wouldn't mind selling that and getting a better one. I used to have a search template for searchtempest but its gone and I would appreciate some help. I'm in the philly area.
Thanks very much!
