Anyone recognize the brand and maybe the model of these benches? The seller wasn't particularly helpful when asked.

Parabody is nice home stuff, I have had some. Without the stack it would sell used for $4-500, and a stack for a newer manufacturer would run you at least $250.

Keep in mind Parabody is out of biz, so if you break it, you own it.

I think you could do better.

That said, you could always contact the seller and ask exactly what is included in the sale. Are the rubber mats included? What is the breakdown of plates? 4 x 45 or just 2 x 45, etc...
Weider and CAP is probably the most common equipment found for sale.

I recently saw a comparable set up in my area for $150. It sold quickly, but point is $350 is a bit more than I'd pay for that.

Also, it might be better for you to just save up for a real power rack instead, and make offers on weights separately.

I would try not to think about it.

The idea of a rack is first and foremost safety -- if you fail on a squat or dead lift or press the rack should catch the bar and protect you.

Do you see that happening very well with that unit?

That's pretty close to the bottom of the barrel as far as racks go, and it's overpriced by $200-250.

SF/Bay Area. Haven't had any luck so far, but would really appreciate if anyone can find any good deals on weights out here. Spent the weekend driving all over the Bay but wasn't able to find anything worthwhile. Everyone out here seems to expect around 70 cents/pound at a minimum (often higher), and that's not even including the bar. One guy even claimed that he should make back all the money he spent on his weights since weights don't depreciate in value.

    Tube diameter: main- 75mm x 75 mm Support- 75mm x 75mm

Tube wall thickness: Main: 2mm; Support: 1.5mm

I scored pretty good today a body solid gpr370 half cage, hoist fid4165 adjustable bench, 300lbs of Olympic weights, 7' bar, 20, 25, 30, 35ld hex dumbbells all for $400. I'm going to flip the half cage, hex dumbbells and an old hoist folding bench and pick up a proper rack. I don't think I can post pics yet but am pretty happy.

What's the deal with all the morons trying to sell their junk weights at a dollar a pound when you can get brand new weight plates and dumbbells brand new and for less at fitness factory or any where else that sells exercise equipment? Are you people smoking crack?
That's funny. That happens in my local CL also. There also needs to be a bulletin for the people that list weights as "weights" with no description of the brand or model of the plates or bars. I'm so sick of reading "weights" to describe anything from Ivanko to Weider. It's not just a lump of iron and a steel bar. There's more to it, folks. Commercial stuff is much more interesting and than 50 cents per pound "Standard" (Cap/TroyUSA) plates, (probably bent) Weider/Cap/TroyUSA bars from 300 lb sets and generic hex dumbbells.

Yup. That same rack and bench were sold under the Protocol, Proviction, and Fitness Gear labels. Decent enough stuff for someone just starting out, but not worth anywhere near what the seller is asking. With that said, I kinda like the bench. I almost bought a blemished one several months ago from a local "scratch and dent" store, but he wouldn't go any lower than $90.

That IS funny. I do not mind it when people post just 'weights'. Even better when they mis-spell the word and it does not pop up when other people's search engines are looking for them. I do not think I would have gotten the four York deep dishes or the pair for 60lb globes for cheap if the sellers had posted them as "VINTAGE YORK IRON WORTH $$$$$$$"

I especially like people who post ads like this.....

There are good deals that pop up because of people's lack of knowledge or lack of interest. I've gotten some good deals from poorly described CL ads. The globes had a nice photo at least. Often there's no photo or a cell phone photo the size of a postage stamp, taken in dim lighting... possibly by the same photographer that photographed the Loch Ness monster... and the description "bench and weights $500". In order to find some of the deals, you must become one with Craigslist, heighten your other senses and be able to fight a half a dozen ninjas blindfolded.

    This is awesome.
    Hmm, can't quote links. Anyway:

Well, that's why I bought new. CL just wasn't producing. Got 255lb of cap plates and a junk bar for $150+tax. I'm still looking for a rack but I'll probably end up ordering a dark horse.

Can anyone identify this rack? I'm guessing not as it is more of a pile of tubing than a rack. I notice a lack of gusseting? if that's the right word for it.

By now I think working at mcdonald's instead of looking for a rack would have paid for my dark horse.
