A bar isn't just a bar in regards to upgrading from the cheap bars that come with most sets. However, I've never owned a premium bar so I can't help you there. The OB-86B is my "premium" bar lol.

Make sure when you searching, you look for 0B-86B as I think there's a 0B86B which is not the same bar.

It is a nice bar, but keep an eye on out CL for a used York split sleeve bar. The "going rate" seems to be $150-200 but you can get them for less. I got my last one for $75, and my first one with a 300LB set plus bench for $300 total.

I had my eye on one when I was going back to NH to visit my dad but the guy lived in a questionable area so I decided against it as I'd have to go there at night. Wanted a $100 for a vintage York 1500 lb rated chrome vanadium. Would have been happy with that. Used equipment is scarce up here, so I went in another direction and still keeping an eye out for a deal on a second bar.

It comes down if tennisfeq86 has a bar that he can use right now or not. If so, looking on CL for a deal is a great option. If not and he wants to start working out right away, then buying/ordering one is the best option in the immediate (and he can still keep an eye out if he wants).

My biggest fear is a bar is a bar, that I won't be able to tell the difference between premium bars and cheaper bars besides strength of steel. I've never held a good bar. My question is what makes the rogue/pendlay better than the OB86b especially if they're both designed for OLY lifts but not to comp specs, aside from strength abuse/tolerances. I know I read that decent bushing bars are just as good as most needle bearing, does this include the OB86B? (all this is OLY lift specific) Sorry for the off topic rant, its something that I have been trying to research and coming up short.
As far as Oly lifts go, the OB-86B is a good bar for the as it has some whip and no central knurling. Pendlays are much better oly bars and their bushing bar is very good, the bearing bar is better but not enough to warrant the cost. Just realize that if it's one bar that you want for everything, you'll eventually be disappointed. Deadlifts and squats are more comfortable with stiffer bars.

    Good luck !

I guess somebody else got in touch with him in the two hours I slacked, OR somebody emailed and offered more than his asking price (which in retrospect, I should have done myself). Ahh well. The yard sale season is young, and college students aren't leaving town en masse yet.

    Gotta love garage sales
This past weekend I picked up a 300lb weight set from a sale for 40$
The guy has two sons who used to use it, but are in college now and it was just collecting dust.
Hopefully it was a start to a good sale season for some decent equipment

Thanks for all the sound advice everybody. I think if I can't find a good deal through craigslist, I'll be purchasing the rogue bar. I messaged a guy regarding his bar, and he says he thinks its Ivanko. The black bar, and is offering me for a cheap price. Would anyone be able to confirm with these pictures?? Please let me know asap if you can as I'm seeing him after work.

Since we're discussing barbells - can anybody tell what kind of barbell is in the attached pic? I've asked for better pictures, but haven't received them yet.

My mind's a little blown here. Emailed about a CL ad for quality Olympic Bars for $40. Guys emails back and says they're Power Systems and have a weight capacity of 500 lbs and they have four available. Wasn't impressed by the 500 lb capacity but never heard of Power systems so I figured I'd Google them. After looking around the site, I found the bar (http://www.power-systems.com/p-2456-...ympic-bar.aspx). Bar looks nice and discovered its made for Olympic lifts. Some sites say its needle bearing. Probably not bad for $40 (though less capacity then I'd like). Where my mind is a little blown is the $330 the site is selling it for when it is only 500 lb capcity. Am I missing something here?

well if you look at the link you provided it states for Oly lifting only and I think you'd be an Olympian if you are over 500lbs on an Oly lift so having needle bearings and whip is more important than capacity.

If you have time I'd keep looking. I think you can find a much better bench for not much more money. Parabody 874s seem to be coming up for less than $100 nowadays.

Unless you are in need of a folding bench, I'd pass as this bench is not very heavy duty.

I just got an incredible deal down here. I had to leave in the middle of lunch to take opportunity of it earlier today. I found a Ivanko OBX-20kg and the guy sold it to me for only $80. I checked the end caps, felt the aggressive knurling, everything seemed to check out. It seemed to good to be true. I've dealt with the seller before and I purchased my Parabody rack with lat attachment + weights from him. Real awesome and friendly guy. Super pumped, I just want to race home and play in my gym, I feel like a kid on Christmas.

I guess somebody else got in touch with him in the two hours I slacked, OR somebody emailed and offered more than his asking price (which in retrospect, I should have done myself). Ahh well. The yard sale season is young, and college students aren't leaving town en masse yet.

So I emailed the seller and asked if the other guy had come through yet, and lo and behold he hadn't. So, I went and picked everything up this evening. Ended up being more weight than he advertized, too. Instead of 4x25, 4x10, and 4x5 lb plates he had 6 of each (in addition to the 4x45, etc.) Came out to 492.5 lbs, Fitness Gear bench, weight rack, barbell, and two decent oly dumbbells with screw collars for $100.
The "bad" part is, some of the plates look old school...Deep dish "Billard" plates, milled. I need to research and see if they are worth anything special. Problem is I think I want to keep some. Even the 5 pounders are milled! I just love the look of milled plates.

Not sure on the bar swimmer, but the lister is in Springfield over here by me. He has some outrageous prices on some equipment that I posted in the dreamers thread. Then he has this for 60.......,go figure.

Well, you can easily make money on the rest and essentially get the plates for free. So, what problem? lol

Those are sweet looking plates. Extra cool because they aren't commonly discussed vintage plates.

Does this look like a good squat rack for $100? I already have a Body-solid multipress rack that I just bought, but this is so cheap lol. The spotters look kind of weak though.

It all depends on the size of the spotters, 1-1/4 cold rolled steel will bend your bar on a failure instead of your bar bending it. $100 is cheap if that's the case.

Don't think you could go wrong for $100 (unless it was the Weider rack that can only hold 210 lbs). Would have to check the spotters out but they look similar to what I have on my TDS rack. If you're unsure about the spotters, you could get new spotters if you wanted to go that route and the total cost still wouldn't be bad. Worst case is you could probably flip it for $200-$250.

    York dumbell sets - 55, 65, 70, 80, 90, 100 = 920lbs ....$375.00 dollars
    (rack included, wood but works)

I don't work out heavy with dumbbells very much. Having said that, I can afford these, and they are so pretty! York globes....*drool*
I just called the guy, and the funny thing is I have bought a bench from him before. I offered him $300 and he said sure. I'll go check them out tomorrow.
