After reading these forums, I'm convinced a power rack, olympic bar and weights would be the way to go. I live in Austin and I was wondering if this is a good deal:

However it seems that I won't be able to use the bench as a standalone because of the way it is connected to the rack and I think that will be a deal breaker unfortunately.
Thanks alot I really appreciate it. Reps when I get on the computer!
Get one with plate storage and you wont need to bolt it down.

If you dont mind, how much is your budget? There is an amazing setup for twice the cost of this one sitting on CL for the last month or so near you.

Guys/gals,
recently emptied my basement and am creating a home gym space. I pretty much need everything, but my priorities are a bench, plates, dumbbells, and a bar. I have an older hammer strength power rack but wouldn't mind selling that and getting a better one. I used to have a search template for searchtempest but its gone and I would appreciate some help. I'm in the philly area.
Thanks very much!

What do you guys think of the nebula brand? There is a preacher curl bench in my area that looks pretty heavy duty for 225 dollars. Also there is a promaxima lat pulldown with a low row for 450 dollars. Are these alright deals? Thanks. They are in the chicago area craigslist.

Not sure about the preacher. Lat machine is a little on the high side. I sold a similar one for $275 last spring but it was missing the double pulley for the low row option ,and it did have the low pulley wheel so it probably broke and was not replaced. I would offer $300 and see if he counters

Nebula is one of the very best brands. It still comes down to condition.

I can't post the pic of the nebula preacher curl bench because I am new here but it is on the chicago craigslist under the city of bolingbrooke. It looks flawless. Thanks ffrink for the lat pulldown advice, I think I am going to wait a little longer and build my cash up.

The only thing about this nebula bench is the cushion seems really thin, but the frame is really heavy duty. I would think a thicker arm cushion would be more ideal.

I just sold a similar setup that was a tuff stuff+bench for $700, but the guy paid too much I thought. I had picked it up for $350 including 400 pounds of weights. So I'd say get him down a little bit to $500 or so, and it's a decent haul, but not amazing deal. There is the same setup in dallas right now for $400. I don't know if you want to drive at all. Also watch San Antonio, b/c I travel there for business, and I will sometimes score some deals there and drive them up to Austin, pop them in my garage and re-sell.
Weights+barbell are the easiest thing in the world to score on craigslist cheap. Be patient and you will grab a set for $75 bucks.
For that price you can buy a basic Texas Strength Systems rack new out of San Antonio, and pick it up to save on shipping and grab some weights and bench on Craigslist , which is what I will be doing with my flipping money. That's one you'll never break and have for life.
I'd low ball him at $400 or $450, and pass if he won't budge.
Plus that bench WILL piss you off since it's so cumbersome.
I'll keep a look out for you as well.

Thank you. I'm not in a hurry and I'm just getting started, so this will be very helpful.
I just saw this and was wondering what this is actually worth?

That is an excellent deal IMHO. The dumbbells alone could be flipped to recoup the $300.

Oh man that's an awesome deal down in Miami everything I'm looking for to start my home gym! Too bad it's an 8hr drive.
And I think everyone convinced me to go with a power rack since the w-4 doesn't offer any real advantages and has to be bolted to the wall. At first i was just set on mimicking my buddies home gym

I heard their shirts contain a chemical known to cause cancer. I wouldn't use them if you paid me. Be warned buddy, those are guaranteed cancer. You'll be dead in 6 months if you use it.
Hope that helps.
