Post-Exercise Muscle Swelling
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows how long muscle swelling last after a work out? Everytime I work on my abs, I look fatter the next day. I have an event to go to tomorrow evening and I am debating on whether or not I should work on my abs today.
Thank you

yeah, i really hope i'm not one of those odd balls that get these symptoms, cuz I tried to Google it and didn't find anything on it. I've swelled up for 2 days before. I wonder if there's a way to make swelling go down faster. Yeah, 1 hr is def normal, but more than that...I don't know what that is supposed to signify.

The pum pgenerally lasts 1-2 hours.
Once the pump goes away, I always feel my muscles look smaller after and the next day.
Just for your instance though, I'd suggest not hitting your abs, so you don't have to worry about it for your event.

Strange...I know that DOMS are from lactic acid build up in your muscles (and from muscle breakdown). Perhaps this is the cause? Ive noticed that I usually look a bit more pumped the day after, perhaps this is the reason why?

even after my pump is gone i can always notice that my arms or chest look bigger usually up to 2 days after my workout (srs) no pain tho
from ezinearticles:
When we try to subject our muscles to workouts far beyond their capacities, the muscles will often tear. When this happens, white blood cells, along with other fluids and nutrients, flow to the muscles to repair the damage. The sudden influx of these elements causes the swelling. These substances continuously flow through the muscles until they are fully repaired. The damage, in this case, is microscopic, and the amount of it depends on the intensity of the workout. This explains why some swelling can last for two days, and some can last for up to five.

Same as me, arms the most noticeable. Definitely stay big for 1/2 days

My arms do this, other muscles don't.

I notice when I overwork a muscle group, most noticeably with arms and abs, the muscles stay pretty big for a couple days. To fix it for my abs I lighten up a little bit and hit them more frequently, say 3 times a week instead of two.
