    Homeschool vs Regular HS (srs)

I went to a local high school freshman year and got decent grades (around 3.5 GPA), but I was absent to the tune of around 18 absences per semester (the maximum). My science teacher even let me stay after school one day as a punishment so I could pass the class with my A+, instead of having to default me to an F like he was supposed to (since I had 18 absences).

Anyways, these absences were due to mysterious stomach pains, which I had been getting checked out for about a year with my doctor, and several specialists, who found nothing. Sophomore year, I hated all of my classes and I had a different lunch period than my close group of friends, which made school that much worse. During the first semester of my sophomore year, I enrolled in an independent study program offered by my school district.

The stomach pains have gone away (I have since found out they are due to anxiety), and I am able to work at a reasonable pace (I can even progress faster than students in my old HS, if I choose to). But, I am left with a large workload that has tested my mental fortitude. Coupled with almost no social interaction, I am left in a predicament.

As a junior, I'm asking you this; should I return to my local high school for senior year? Or should I just tough it out and graduate from independent study?

    HS Pros:
    -Easier classes
    -Friends
    -More free time

    HS Cons:
    -Way behind socially
-Anxiety (which I hope to conquer)

    Independent study Pros:
-Will look better on a college app. if I graduate
    -Work at my own pace
    -Excellent grades

    Independent study Cons:
    -No social interaction
-Having to help immigrant parents with daily issues

Help me decide what to do!

go through high school. even if you dont like it, it is good to have the experience interacting with people and going outside of your comfort zone. allows you to be more aware of how people normally think/interact(not that you should copy this, just a good thing to be aware of)

If I were you I'd go through with High School. You also said you were hoping to "conquer anxiety", so it would be cool for you to try and overcome it.

I had the same problem, real bad anxiety. I like couldn't go to class either, felt like my stomach had alot of pressure and was gonna explode. I ended up just learning how to conquer it, and sit through class. It slowly went away.

    it depends,

you could homeschool , f*cking ace it then enjoy social life in uni while you crusie through a good degree

    Or

you could go to regular HS make friends, become easily influenced, lose sight of you goals and end up a f*ck up coz you couldn't get your **** together.

BTW those are not the only 2 possibilities, you could make either work if you tried hard enough. Good luck brah

    Homeschool*** here.
The only thing I miss about highschool is not getting a chance to play sports, which I could've done, just didn't know I could. I don't get why you think you'll have more free time in HS, I spend 4 hours on schoolwork a weekday tops.

you now have 2 choices. Independent studies to look better for college, graduate, have a better career path, regret independent studies during highschool because you have no friends

    or

go to school, make friends, still do good on grades, go to college, regret not doing this sooner.

edit: and since when does anxiety cause stomach pains? i have severe anxiety and take medicine for it but all it does it make my heart rate jump extremely high often.

if you have social anxiety and it has caused you problems you might as well stick with what you're doing now. if it's working for you. the social part of HS is important, but if you don't hang out or talk to any of those people outside of HS they will probably be disappearing pretty quickly anyways. if you stick with what you're doing you're setting yourself up well for the future, or you could go back with the ASSUMPTION that your anxiety problems go away and you will have a great social life. HS isn't for everybody, it's not something that is really accepted, but you should do whats best for you. if you really miss the social interaction you could try getting a job or going out on the weekends.

Go to high school. If you have anxiety now and you don't conquer it or learn how to deal with it, you will have more trouble in college.

Thanks for all of the replies.

That's what I was planning on, except for one problem; math. I have to teach myself everything here, and it just doesn't "click" as well as the other subjects do. I end up spending most of my free time trying to do it by myself. I think I may have a solution though*.

The only thing I miss about highschool is not getting a chance to play sports, which I could've done, just didn't know I could. I don't get why you think you'll have more free time in HS, I spend 4 hours on schoolwork a weekday tops.
I use to have more free time in HS because the teacher did all of the teaching. I sit here and read through a textbook, teaching myself (which, if done right, should take up a large chunk of time).

edit: and since when does anxiety cause stomach pains? i have severe anxiety and take medicine for it but all it does it make my heart rate jump extremely high often.
I guess it goes like this; Anxiety >> Stress >> Manifests itself into stomach pain

"Stomach pain" allows me to escape the situation.

if you have social anxiety and it has caused you problems you might as well stick with what you're doing now. if it's working for you. the social part of HS is important, but if you don't hang out or talk to any of those people outside of HS they will probably be disappearing pretty quickly anyways. if you stick with what you're doing you're setting yourself up well for the future, or you could go back with the ASSUMPTION that your anxiety problems go away and you will have a great social life. Excellent points.

Independent study removes all of the BS and drama that regular HS has, and I have never done this well in school before.

I do have some social interaction, such as the gym, and I'm going to go to a local CC for some classes I need to get into college.. but not having a few buds to talk to gets depressing.

*I'm going to ask my teacher if it would be possible to take a math class at a local community college, so I could benefit from an actual teacher. If so, that will be a huge benefit to independent study.

Independent study is the ****. When i got home from exchange to Japan a few months ago and I went on IS. I get to spend 2 hours ever day at the gym, get 8 hours of sleep a night and maintain a 4.0 GPA and possibly graduate early. I party with my old HS friends on the weekend and go with them to the pool or beach when they have half days during the week. Life is grand on IS.

But if you have social issues, HS might be better. The more people you are around the easier it will be to get rid of those anxieties and problems.

Independent study is my favorite. I went to Military school last year for my my sophmore year and had the time of my life and got good grades, but I made a stupid desicion to come back to public HS this year. Now my grades suck and I hate a lot of the people. I'm going back to Military school nex year, so hopefully everything will work out.

Everyone in high school has anxiety to some degree or another. I had it very bad freshman year and was puking out of being nervous 3 out of 5 days in the school week at times. It pretty much dissappeared sophomore year and I really don't have to deal with that anymore.

My teacher just said I could do math at a local CC.

Life is pretty awesome right now, except for not having friends. I get 8-12 hours of sleep, meals around the clock, a personal chauffeur to and from the gym, and no teenage BS.

Truthfully, my therapist wants me to make the jump. He is helping me get through my anxiety issues and he says this would be the best step for me. But who can decide what is best in regards to education?

Any extra input is appreciated. I have about a week to decide now.

Edit: Reps on recharge, starting at Mefreh.

being out of highschool I now realize it is not to be taken seriously. HS is pretty much a joke academically speaking if you just put a little time into it. Today, anyone can graduate from there if you just go. A teacher once told me that they are told to not give out grades lower than C's. go to HS, it's a major part of your maturation
