Or you could wear the backpack on your chest.

I never did chest dips, I have to figure out a way to do them at home.

and as for the thread, flat bench is still far >>>> than dips, but dips are still amazing.

love dips but they're bad on your shoulders if you do enough ROM for it to be worth it.

they also did upright rows, behind the neck presses, etc.

Tricep dips don't really put much stress on the delt, but full ROM chest dips do. Go ahead and do them but it isn't a good idea if you're prone to shoulder injury like i am.

Always did dips even when I was young. Used to do them (and still do) at a corner of a counter top. Places a bit more emphasis on the pectoral muscles when your hands are flat and turned in on and angle on the counter.

Dips however, or even dumbell pressing actually use your pecs a lot more.
Its a compound lift...and they do serve a purpose. I agree though that dips are an essential part of any workout program. But they also work the delts, and tricpes. You are pretty much always going to be working that group of muscles when ever you do chest.

My bench sucks ass, been stuck @ 205 for a few months... My dips have been constantly increasing though.... At the end of a workout, I can do bw+90lbs x 8. I havent done em fresh for a long time, but last time I did I was doing 125lbs x 8.

Yet my bench is weak a ****

Gironda dips being my top 2 or 3 favorite exercise, i get hurt doing them all the time. Usually a shoulder tweak, but I've also had wrist pain as well as elbow pain.

The first time I feel a pinch I stop immediately and won't attempt again for a week. I don't even finish the set. So when I do them I'm very conscious of staying under control.

Unless I'm doing regular ol' tricep dips in which case i just crank em out.
