Just wanted to see how long everybody wants to do Keto for. I'm shooting to do it for 1 month but I'm strugglin BIG TIME. I've been doin it for 4 days and I've already dropped 6 pounds but I'm super shakey and low on energy. My family has a history of diabetes and hypoglycemia so I'm wondering if this is bad for me because of such a low carb intake. Thoughts?

I'll probably do keto until i reach my ideal weight. Then i'll see how it goes from there. I don't see me ever trying to lose weight again with any other diet plan. I love keto! 68lbs down so far and i'm not looking back

I have no plans on changing from Keto anytime soon. I have people hate on me when I was on 40/40/20, someone is always going to hate on you. I think my diet and my fitness is personal to me. I hate it when I sit down to eat and someone critiques what I am eating, telling me my cholesterol is going to go through the roof, and I am going to have a heart attack and die. Whatever. I think that is why I smoked cigs for so long, because everytime someone complained about my smoking, I would go light up another cig.

My cholesterol went way down on this diet. Going to have a physical soon to check it again, but I can't imagine it being high. People who tell you it is going to go up do not know what they are talking about. Sure, if you ate that amount of fat on a regular diet, I am sure your cholesterol would be through the roof.

I do this. I don't necessarily binge to some of the levels that other people have done on these forums, but I usually eat what I want for two days. I think this is what has allowed me to stay on the diet for a year.
My weight is higher during the carb-ups by about 5 lbs because of the water absorbtion. I loose it as soon as I start eating keto again. I have actually lost another 5 lbs when I didn't think I could loose anymore (since that is not really my goal). Now I am actually going to up my calories, both during the week and the carb-up.
Some might call it weak, but if it keeps me on the diet and I am still seeing results, I could care less what others think.

I dont go to fast food joints and eat french fries and cheeseburgers and what not, but I eat til I get full which rarely happens during the week. Stuff like whole wheat bread and pasta, homemade granola, pretzels and hummus, nothing too crazy. Gf is a pastry chef so I usually have some sort of dessert and thats about it.
The main thing is eating til im full which like I said, rarely happens during the week, I usually get medium full but can always eat more, but obviously dont.
I go up a few pounds but by Wednesday or Thursday Im back to normal

^^ this for myself.
On the occasions I've decided to have any type of serious carb intake, now I feel pretty awful from head to toe.
My physique has never looked this good, and I made it through the winter without a single cold.
Eating while traveling can sometimes be a pain, but not that often. I can always minimize carbs or find good options. If a server gives you the stink-eye for asking that you leave the bun off your sandwich, deduct from the tip and move on with your life But I find most places are very accomodating.Keto since 12/26/09

your family is prone to diabetes but you dont know what it is? this diet keeps the blood sugar and insulin steady...great for diabetics i would think
your super shakiness/low energy is just due to adapting to fat
if you think you might be diabetic or hypoglycemic i would talk to the doctor before changing up my diet drastically either way13

In your case, think about some form of keto/low carb for life. Before injectible insulin, keto was the only treatment for diabetes. Diabetics who ate many carbs died.
You're going to feel strange while your body adjusts, but then you should feel much better, more stable and alert and generally healthier.
I'm on keto ten years now, and have no plans to come off it. I feel well and look about ten years younger than my friends.65% fat, 30% protein, 5% carbs = keto.

Some people do their carb ups differently then others. I remember my first weekend to "carb-up", i royally binged and messed up. I ate way to much and because of it i regained some of the weight i had lost that week (and no it was not water). I have resulted to just eating one big meal with all the carbs i need for the "weekend" carb up. I've found it very hard to eat clean when i would spread my carbs through the day. When i eat my carb meal (which is exactly at noon every saturday), i typically stay full the whole day and dont eat anything else, therefore resulting in not binging. This is how i carb up.
I would have to agree that i dont go well with carbs. Im italian/spanish and have been eating carbs my whole life being that it is a huge part of my culture.....thus being the reason why i have been fat my whole life lol. Keto just works for me.Nov 2008 - 270lb 39%BF
