Make money hiking or in the outdoors

What ways can i make money hiking or in the outdoors in general. So far i have came up with gold prospecting, picking muchrooms, and in case of an extreme hike i might get sponsors. Any ideas?

Start doing ultra-marathons (50+ miles) if you are good you may get a sponsor. If you aren't good enough for a sponsor then you can at least tell people that you run ultras.

Absolutely nothing. I would suggest finding a decent paying real job and hiking during the offtime.

Plow some fields, clear some brush. Hell I knew a couple guys who worked as surveyors and they had to have snake boots and carry machetes because they were always back in the woods trying to find property lines.

With gold prospecting if you are doing it yourself you will have to be incredibly lucky to make enough just to live off of. Such as finding a great stream and spending weeks digging out the bottom and dredging down to the stream bed.


How about trying to find a company that needs people to survey or something outdoors. Like a mining company looking for new claims?


If you really want something independent, maybe you could try finding remote areas where during a gold rush in the 1800s people ran big sluices. Maybe you could metal detect near them and try to find pieces they missed.

The Forestry Department is hiring (depending on your area.) Some local & state parks need trail Maintenance. Or you could join a search and rescue. Of course none of these are going to get you a lot of money. But they could potentially get you some money for being out on the trails.

In my state they will. Obviously you have to find the right kind but there are people who do it. I know a guy who found one hiking which he sold to a restaurant for $75.

I am thinking Worm Grunting, Carving Wood Walking Sticks, Collecting golfballs (lol), capturing wild life, and collecting various herbs in your state
