anyone give there dog human joint medicine ?

i cant stand to watch my dog, having trouble get up and down, hes a border collie mix with a lab, and hes about 12 yrs old and read that these types of dogs are prone to having bad hips.

was wondering if i can crush up human joint medicine and put in his food too help him feel better, anyone else do this ??

you can give chondroitin to your dog. Not sure about glucosamine. Probably would be okay but I know they make doggie treats with chondroitin and other joint repair products in them so why not pick up some of those? Might be more expensive, but you know they will have safe doses and your dog will probably appreciate them more.

They make chewable forms for pets that you can find at most pet food stores. I know for sure Petsmart carries a few different forms and strengths.

They are usually twice as expensive for half the dose. My dogs vet is the one that suggested i buy Gluc/chon at a grocery store or pharmacy for him

the ones from petsmart or other pet places are more expensive, but atleast you know they are made for dogs and should not have anything in them that could be potentially harmful, or made with equipment that processes things that your dog may be allergic to..... typically places that make products that animals ingest are made solely at places that make animal food only, or so i was told by one of the people whos account i handle that works at a dog food place by my work (you should smell the smell on a hot summer day lol) i personally would pay what ever is needed to make my dog feel better for her last few years..... either way make sure with your vet that what you are giving your dog is ok just to make sure

Yes you can, but he probably would benefit more by giving him Rimadyl or some other NSAID for dogs.

I would rather trust what is made for a human rather than a animal. Plus most stuff made for animals is made in run down foreign countries.
