is double my 20 yard dash time my 40 yard dash time?
My friend has a back yard that is like 23.6 yards exactly. We are timing my 40 right now but its showing up as 2.5 and I have a feeling I'm a lot slower than that I can't double back because when I do that I have to stop completely which slows me down. So is double that close to the 40 dash time? And if not what's a good estimate from my 20 time.

gonna guess you need to learn how to time. 2.5 first 20 usually translates to a sub 4.5 40yd since the body is still accelerating. why not just go in the street or find a park or something and measure that out?

Possibly.
There are people who are better at shorter distances(ie: 10 yard, 20 yard runs such as O-Line or D-Line...well they should be faster at least) that cannot maintain top speed and begin to decelerate a lot sooner than others. Then there are those who have greater top speed. At least this is what I have come to notice about different people running the 40 yard dash.
A lot of variables go into one's time.

this
you wouldnt double the 20 because that would mean counting your acceleration to top speed twice...whereas if you're running a 40 you only hit top speed once and keep it going(assuming you can keep top speed for 40 yards)

why come on the internet and ask us to estimate ur time? lol this is retarded
u think one of us has a magical physics equation where we put in ur username and it poops out ur sprint times?
go out and run a 40 on the street, a track, a football field.
just for fun i'll say your 40 time is 5.4

Are you retarded? I never said to estimate my 40 time. I said is double the 20 yard dash equal to the 40 yard dash. And if not about what would I add to the 20 yards to get around my 40. I never said to estimate mine I asked for a general answer.

You got to run a 40 to get a 40 time. Too many variables.

Deceleration isn't a factor because speed endurance doesn't come into play at 40 yards. The people who are best at the 40 are those with the best acceleration, not necessarily the best top end speed.

ye over the 40 each of the 10 yard time should be faster...

Its safe to bet he isnt running a sub 4.5 40 at the age of 15 with zero training except running in his backyard.

hence newbies need to learn how a stop watch works. 2.5s 20yd...thats like 1.3s for the first 10yds which, correct me if im wrong, only high end 100m runners get that kind of burst.
so now that i think about it even if his first 10yd was a more believable 1.6s split then 10-20yd would be a 'wtf?' .9s split. which means even if there was no more acceleration then ... 3.8s 40yd= legendary

remember, he ran 23 yards in 2.5 seconds, which if he doesnt slow down equates to a 4.34 40 yard. If he accelerates like most runners do, he is looking at a sub 4.3
Or his friend is slightly off in timing him over such a short interval.

your 40 time will be less than double your 20 time

i was kind of wondering about this. at 23 yds or whatever does the yard just stop? is there a fence they are slamming into at full speed? or do they just stop timing when they start running into their neighbors yard.
