    Math vs. Physics. Mind=Blown.

    So if the laws of physics say it's impossible to reach light speed...

    ..but time travel can be simulated approaching speeds of 99.999% of light speed..

    ...and .999=1....

    mind=blown.

    Isn't it because light has no mass?
    Judging from the covers of countless women's magazines, the two topics most interesting to women are: (1) Why men are all disgusting pigs, and (2) How to attract men.

    light does it because it has no mass, F=ma so it would take no force to accelerate it to the speed of light. This is called the Lorentz factor for those who would like to know. But what i dont get is as you approach the speed of light, light is still moving at 3x10^8m/s relative to you.

    1/3 = .3~
    1/3+1/3+1/3 = 1
    Therefore .9~ = 1

    But the theoretical speeds aren't truly .9~. They're probably only .999
    or .99999999999999999999999999999999999 or something.

    But not truly .9~

    It would reach the max light speed but it wouldn't surpass it. Is it that you can't reach light speed? I thought it just was that you couldn't go faster than speed of light.

    Although I'd imagine it isn't 100% impossible. If space itself can travel faster than the speed of light, who knows what might be possible in the future? It may not even be necessary to travel faster than light if we can use worm holes

    you wouldn't be able to throw it because you would need almost infinite force to move it. As you increase close to the speed of light everything stretches and you need infinite force to keep accelerating

    yeah i know i only put three decimals but still if .9 repeating is said to equal 1, and a body can be made to move at a speed indefinitely approaching light speed, (ie .99999999)

    that doesnt make sense to me. if i am stationary then light is moving at 3x10^8m/s relative to me.

    But if Im moving at 100m/s then wouldnt light be moving at (3x10^8m/s-100m/s)?
