What are peoples choice of machine for cardio & how often do you incorperate cardio in your routine.
Since having an achilles injury preventing me from running I have turned to the bike for my steady state cardio & for my high intensity short cardio found the rower best.
Since rowing my shoulders & back workouts have improve loads and really felt stronger. Personally found the rower the best cardio equipment for strength as well.
Whats the deal with these pussy steppers & ski machines. Have tried these but struggle to get my heart rate up to even 65% on these & dont feel they are providing any benefit whatsoever. However suppose they are good for warm up/cool down or recovery session.
Thoughts?

at the moment i do 30mins on the xtrainer after every weight workout, that gets my heart rate up to say 130 - 150. If i am trying to really increase my cardio fitness then i will do intervals either runing or on the rower. My goal at the moment is to put on muscle so cardio is taking a bit of a back seat.

I think the term cardio is used incorrectly at times on this site. Cardio training is training for the health of your heart/cardiovascular system. People confuse this with training to burn the most amount of calories, or to burn fat. I suppose because there is a massive overlap. But they really are two different things.
You should try sprinting. Its anaerobic in nature so it will also build muscle/power/strength. If your goal is to burn calories.
If you want to burn fat you need work at 50-70% of your Max HR for an extended period of time.
70-85% is good for your actual heart health.Last edited by Mr.NoPrint; 04-25-2010 at 03:34 AM.
