    Deadlift- Back pain

I've recently started doing more deadlifts.

I keep a conscious check of my technique which I think is ok but since upping the weight on the barbell deadlift I've been getting pains in my lower back (left hand side) just above my butt.

I don't get this pain when doing dumbbell dealdifts but dont want to drop the barbell ones as I see both as beneficial.

Basically what I am asking is, is the pain good pain (i.e. muscles working) or bad pain (causing strain/injury)?

It ihas only arose since increasing weight, when I drop down in weight the pain isnt't there but obviously I'm now finding the lower weight too easy.

Should I keep at this weight or drop back to lower weight for a bit?

Just on one side, i dont see it being a "good" pain. And even if it is "muscle working",feeling on just one side might suggest that form isn't the best. There are other possibilities, but you gotta learn to differentiate the pain from strain, and muscle working.
Obviously noone can tell what it is on the net, since its YOUR body.

if your form is still good, i wouldnt worry about it. I have the same thing. Its like a tightness that wraps from my upper butt, through my groin, down to my left mid-thigh. Try some stretching. If you are struggling to get the weight up, then lower it until you have something that is comfortable

I can almost bet that it has something to do with your set up.

Since its one side it might be your form, but lower back soreness is normal with deadlifts for me and I feel my form is pretty good

Probably bad form, but possibly SI joint inflammation. Advil, stretch CHECK FORM (likely back rounding and inadequate glute involvement) and continue.
    GOMAD!
