    Wall mounted Barbell (storage) Rack

Has anyone got a flush fitting (or nearly flush) barbell rack?

Where did you get it from? How much was it?

    Has anyone made there own?

I'm a little limited for space in my home gym (single garage conversion in the UK) and would like to have my selection of barbells stored on a rack so they aren't taking up floor space.

A lot of the racks I've seen have quite large foot prints though so I'd like to buy or make something wall mounted.

Any suggestions on this would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Andrew

    I just use these:

I cut the vinyl coating off so they matched my chrome bars and using the ones in the upper right bent so they hung correctly I put pairs into the wall studs to hang my bars on.

I used the U shaped ones to hang smaller accessories like those for my Lat tower and dumbbell handles.

Pretty cool. Not bad looking at all.
But for $159 I'd probably try making my own first or use Wildtim's idea. You'd probably need several which could get pretty pricey fast.

i used the same ones, but left the vinyl on. some are ripped up now, but i only spent about $20 (including wood to mount them on).

I like the look of this but you're right about the lack of bar storage. However, I could probably make something similar with increased bar storage and reduce the plate storage. I already have a weight tree.

I've got 2 of the A-frame plate holders, and I don't know..."hate" is too strong a word, but I'm definitely not crazy about them. It's probably just me, but they don't hold enough of the plates I've got a lot of - 45's - and why is it they always seem to be in the way of whatever I am doing? Tripping over a plate rack is not a fun proposition.

I guess they're OK for what they are but that's why I took a look at this thread and the wall-mounted option...something to clear floor space would be ideal.

I would KILL to have something like that on sale in the UK. Maybe the UK York seller has one.....

Anyway I'm also interested in whatever homemade bar rack options there are, so I'm going to subscribe to this thread. At the moment I just have my empty bar sitting on the hooks, and I can't purchase a vertical holder because my gym is in my bedroom, and the ceiling isn't high enough to slip the barbell in.

I have yet to purchase a weight tree, so that item above kills two birds with one stone.

Wildtim this is a bump from a few years ago, but I just came across this thread looking for a solution to get my barbells on the wall. Can you tell me what apparatus you used to bend those hooks. I've got some that I had kicking around (red and yellow ones), and I also bought some new black ones from Walmart that were on clearance for $1 (these are thicker bicycle hooks). Not sure how I would bend either flavor of these hooks.

Also, did you bend them such that the U was upright once they were in the wall?

This looks like a nice DIY solution to get my three barbells on the wall. Thanks

The gun rack is really nice. I'd probably need two sets though because I want a regular bar, swiss bar, and rackable hex bar off my floor. 105 or so US is a little expensive, but I'll be mulling over whether I want to spend that for my storage needs. I'm in Canada and can pick up stuff an hour away just across the US border, or ship from Rogue Canada (higher prices and double shipping cost).

May end up going with painted 2x4s mounted to studs, with J hooks in them mounted where they need to be to get my 3 bars up there. Thinking it over.....

Thanks for the posts and ideas.

I made my own out of a couple 2x4's and a handful of 3/8" x 8" galvanized spikes cut to length. I didn't put any effort into making it pretty, but it wouldn't be hard to do.

You can't see it in the pic, but the crossbar has places for clamps/collars and the uprights have places for straps/wraps on the sides between the bars.

Wow, I can have two sets of that shipped to my house, taxes in for $116. Not bad and yes it does look good. In Canada it seems to ship from Montreal which would explain the much lower shipping cost as compared to the Rogue.

Stasher nice DIY solution as well. Thanks everyone for all the ideas. Wasn't expecting so many when I resurrected this old thread

Stasher nice DIY solution as well. Thanks everyone for all the ideas. Wasn't expecting so many when I resurrected this old thread
Stasher's ideas work extremely well if you have odd shaped bars such as trap, football, cambered squat, etc., the Rogue style holders are only straight bars. Good luck in your decision.

only holds 4 bars instead of 6, for $45.
I don't see the BFS as an option to the rogue for here in the U.S.. I've had some of their products and they aren't anywhere near as nice as Rogue's. Plus the shipping included price to me is not that different $57.85 (BFS) vs. $64.16 (Rogue). $6.31 for an inferior rack that holds less bars is not a good deal to me. Maybe if you only plan on having 4 bars, but I didn't have a problem filling my gunrack with straight bars, lol.

    Thanks for that.

My situation is I have an Elite FTS Swiss Bar, Rackable Hex Bar from BWTG, and a standard barbell. So, all 3 of those won't fit on one Rogue set - I'd need to put two up. Same for the Again Faster one, with 4 spots I'd need two, and can space them appropriately. Now if it turns out the latter are inferior, well of course that would not be good. I'm waiting for them to confirm whether the specialty bars will slide in the slots, since it is the thick part that needs to do that.

2 x Rogue is 178 (not including tax I think) - this is from Rogue Canada, so its gonna come in somewhere between 60-80 more for two Rogue. Wish I could see them side by side.

We're in a general basement spruce up mode so this is all part of that. Gym is a subset of a large recreation room area, so want something to look nice, and gym flooring is also on the list. Having said that, I can certainly make a DIY rack look decent by painting the wood, so still thinking it over. I should post a picture of the mirror I just got for free... 36 x 80 that a neighbor was getting rid of after a bathroom reno. It will go nicely in this spruced up gym area

Edit: 2 x Rogue if I pickup in the US (will be there anyway soon) would be 134.15 plus tax at the border, so about 150.

I was planning to copy Stasher's idea until I picked up a 9-bar holder that sits on the floor. Now I'm thinking that that metal pegboard will be perfect to get all my other crap (pulldown bars, spring collars, etc) up off the floor.

Where did you get the 9 bar holder, and do the bars go in vertical or horizontal?

It sits on the floor, and the bars go in vertical. I got mine from Vulcan, they had them on clearance a couple of months ago. A lot of companies make them, they usually go for $90-120 before shipping. CHeck Amazon for "Olympic Bar Holder".

I happen to have enough floor space, and I have a trap bar and plan to get a Swiss bar at some point, so the floor holder made sense for my situation.

I had something similar to Stasher. I picked up the 2x4's at Home Depot for free (They were in the scrap wood bin, previously used as corner protection for a pallet). They had channels cut in them already so I could inset some hooks. I think it cost me $15 total with the hardware to bolt to the studs. This might be ideal because you can vary the spacing as needed to fit your specialty bars.

This is the current setup with the Rogue Gun Rack and specialty bars. Its a really nicely made piece for the price and perfect for checking if a bar is straight.

Rogue website says the gun racks are 38 inches high. Another forum says 31 7/8 or something like that. Rogue emailed me to say it was indeed 38. Anyone with them, are they really that long? Rogue must know their own stuff but they don't look it from photos. Thanks.

    what is BFS?

I've only got experience with barbells, kettlebells and jump ropes from again faster - I haven't seen or used the gun rack in person, but my comment was only that it looked a lot better than the rogue version - which it undeniably does. From everything I've heard or seen though, they're a great company to work with. I don't know why you would assume that this would be a bad product.
