I know it has to be a few female marines on here i can ask questions.....about gaining muscle, what i need to do to be prepared for bootcamp and especially vitamins. Army females are welcome too since they sort of train like marines! (:

Well I am not a Marine and I prob will never be but I can at least try to help you out. Im sure that you take protein, but I would increase your dose and add some glutamine to it, to help your body digest the protein faster.

well i guess since i "sorta" train like a marine ill chime in ...id say run your ass off for endurance...build upper body strength (ie...bench press, military press, push ups, pull ups, dips etc.). Lower body exercises, not sure if marines do as much rucking but get used to about 30-40 lbs on your back for about 10-13 miles, so work your legs (ie squats, leg presses, iron mikes (lunges) leg extensions..etc). Vitamins...they wont let you take those in boot camp which sucks so eat alot and drink a **** load of water, trust you'll burn it off and be starving. I'm not sure about the boot camps now but they've gone real soft letting you have your cell phone and all kinda nonsense so it might be different for you. hope this helps

Former Marine here....the one thing I'd stress more than anything is run, run, run. Because once you get to boot camp, you'll need to complete 3 miles under 30 min I believe. Running will always be part of PT during your military time, so it's important to be able to keep up in formation runs, as you don't wanna be one of the ones who falls behind. Also, one part of the PFT is the flex-arm hang. You hold yourself up on the bar (like you're doing a pull up but you never come back down), and that's timed also. The longer you hold yourself up, the higher your score. Next thing is crunches, practice those and if you can do 100 in 2 min, you're good to go. It's important to be at your best when it comes to those three things because you have PFT's annually, and you wanna be able to score as close to a 300 PFT (perfect score) as possible.

Another thing is humps, as Marines call them, which is essentially a hike with a crap load of gear on your back. Just like someone else mentioned, it's roughly about 30-40 lbs on your back, so try to build upper body strength if you can...it'll definitely help once you get to MCT.
"When you feel like giving up, remember why you held on for so long in the first place."

Did both USMC and Army (boot camps and all)

One thing to realize is that you will do just fine if you enter in reasonable shape (your USMC recruiters will see to that), that bootcamp is designed to put you in the right condition to pass the PT tests.

You are of fine body comp right now (height and weight) to do well. You'll want to make sure that you are eating a lot in boot camp to feed all your activity.

Other than that, all the exercise stuff that people are saying is fine advice for you for now. Any sort of physical endurance sort of work will help you to prepare.

    Have fun and good luck!
