Dirty hit, plain and simple. Had he hit him square with his shoulder or hip, awesome. But he left his skates and hit him in the head with an elbow.

They also ruled against these kind of hits pretty recently.. ones to the head when a player isn't looking. I guess technically it wasn't a blind side but I feel like this is exactly what they were trying to avoid even if it doesn't fall under definition of the rule.

Pause the clip at 9 seconds, Leupold is bent in half with his head near where his chest should be. He didn't catch the elbow because it was brought up, it was because he tried to duck the hit/had his head down.

It is still illegal to hit someone in the head. And whether he was coming off his skates is close, I think he was off when contact was made, hence why he spun around in the AIR and into the boards.

Andy Sutton is 6'6", Jordan Leopold is 6'1"; when you're skating full speed up the ice you obviously do not skate upright. When lining up a hit such as Sutton did, the moment you pop someone you extend your legs, thus standing up taller.

It's not Sutton's fault Leopold had his head down right at the natural height of Sutton's elbow and Sutton stood him up. Clean hit in my opinion
