    Wendler 5/3/1 BBB Template Question

If my goal with pull-ups is to use weight while doing them, should I do sets untill I get 50 reps, or should I just do five sets of them and do as many as I can? I'd like to do weighted pullups but I think trying to do fifty of them with weight is not going to happen for a while.

What is the best way to increase my pull-ups on while doing the Boring But Big Template?

Doing a template that allowed you to do pull-ups might be a lot better idea.

Even if I pick the Triumvirate it still has 5x10.

By the way, I live in Troy, Michigan. You know of?

The BBB template has you doing 5 sets x 10 reps with the main lift of the day. Thus Military press has you doing 5 x 10 at say 50 percent of your working max. You can do chins after, but shouldn't worry too much about them. Just do lots of total reps. As Wendler says, they don't fckng matter{that is, compared to the big stuff}.The assistance exercises are supposed to help the four big lifts. In no way should they be considered to be as important as progress in the big four.

In Wendler's Beginner's Program, which I also got, he suggests that chins be done for multiple sets at half your rep max. So if you can get 8 perfect chins, multiple sets of 4 are the business. Obviously since it is not a main lift, you can have fairly short rests between your sets. You can either go for a set count, like 6 x rep max, or you can go for a total volume/rep count, eg 50. It really doesn't matter, both work to help your upper body lifts.

    Lift well and prosper.
