how many chest exercises should I do on chest day

Which is a good number of chest exercises to do when training the chest? I am unsure how many to actually do and how long to stop in the gym?

Depending on their routines, they will do 3-8 exercises, for 1-5 sets.

I personally shoot for 9 work sets per muscle, and my split has me hitting each muscle twice a week.

Totally agree, If your starting, 3 exercises might be enough to start and get a good burn, If you have been doing this for a bit, you might need to increase the amount of exercises.

Not sure if this would work for you, but I would recommend doing basics to hit each area,

    Incline dumbbell or Barbell Press
    Flat dumbbell or Barbell Press
Some type of fly movement, whether it be machine, dumbbell, or even cable crossovers
If you need to hit your lower pecs, dips or decline bench press would be good.
    - As for how many sets, do what works for you, just don't run the risk of overtraining

I'll go against the popular rule here, do two excercises for chest, an incline press and then flat bench press(dumbells or barbells)..and then go on to something else..!

    Talking Chest variations

Everyones body is different. Chest is one of my easier body parts to target. I do 2-3 different exercises. Barbell press, and a chest pull of some kind. You can do flies, cable crossovers, use pec deck machine. I use at least one push, one pull. I've seen push ups done the standard, incline, and decline using a bench or exercise ball. I've sometimes taken the 3 position approach. You have to experiment. Decide on a regimen that you think will work best for you. Try it for 3-4 weeks then tweak the weaker areas. If I'm kinda feeling overtrained by other body exercises. I use the machine press. I follow chest routine with 2-3 triceps..usually kickbacks and overhead extension on a cable machine or barbell. I'm not strong enough to do full dips and I'm returning to weightlifting after a prolonged period of inactivity so..I'm wading through the muck a little myself, that's part of the fun. I have boobs so actually seeing my mid chest is kinda obscured but I feel sore. I wouldn't mind a little lift or loosing some fat there, lol. Surgery would never be an option. I've had enough of those and it wasn't for cosmetic reasons. Injuries from a fall related to epilepsy. The folks here have given me some ideas too! Thanks to all!

    No brain, no gain.
